I like that a lot - where did you source the body / neck?

One of my recent partscasters, bought as a complete guitar but the neck wasn't brilliant so was discarded as was the scratchplate and everything on it.

I bought this new neck, plus scratchplate, controls etc. Pickups started life as standard Squier ones, then the ceramic magnets were removed, and the steel polepieces pushed out and replaced by alnico 5 slug magnets. They sound excellent. There is also a pull/push pot to get all 7 pickup combinations.

Someone suggested I call her Penelope. Someone else accused me of cheating, because everyone would be so busy looking at the picture that they wouldn't notice the bum notes.

Alas, the guitar is no more as I am about to sell the body, the neck and electronics are going into a Surf Green one I'm currently building, and there is to be a new Shell Pink one with three pull/push switches for lots of pickup options.

The body was actually from Bloodstone guitars - quite random that he just had one kicking about when my mate called up about his pickups, the neck pocket was a bit high so had to lower it by 2-3mm finished it with truoil. I was looking at the StewMac ones as they do nice pine bodys.

The neck was a Warmoth only because a mate was ordering one so I jumped on his order to save shipping, the other ones to look at are USCG, they make great necks!

COuld get a swamp ash or alder body from Warmoth/USCG - would be great!

Worth checking Northwest Guitars for necks too, the options list isn't quite as long as at Warmoth, but the quality seems good and there's no import duty to pay as they're UK based.

Can't remember if I put this up when I showed my guitars before. Just picked it up for the first time in months. Lovely thing.

Gretsch G5420T. I was 99% sure I wanted the thin doublecut one after playing a pile of different guitars in guitarguitar a couple of weeks ago but I prefer to buy from my local shop. Went in there with the full intention of buying a black 5422 but this huge thing just blew it away. I love it! Aspen green is a very silvery colour in daylight.

Thanks!

The colour looks bloody awful in catalogue photos and not much better in that pic above - in reality it's fabulous - very like a metal-flake very pale silver/green.

Ha.

Fair enough. The black is lovely but attracts fingerprints like a stainless steel fridge full of pudding in a house with 20 kids.

So, my birth year guitar is now with me.

Old case...

Here she is!

Woo!

So, it's got a big, thick neck. By the 12th fret it's a real handful. But is is so light in comparison to some others. Only played it through a handheld amp currently, but my GAS has got to stop soon....
