With regard to the Les Paul that might be a refinished Gold Top, in '68 they were only making Gold Tops and Customs so you're probably right.
I used to have a wine red Standard that was claimed to be a '75 - not very likely as Gibson's records showed they only shipped one Standard that year. When I emailed them details and photos, they said mine was probably a '68 or '69. (serial number was 500XXX.)
I began to suspect it was a refinished Gold Top that had had humbuckers added and really should have had it restored, but sold it instead.
On the subject of the Burny I agree with all that has been said. I had a Greco EG700 a few years back ...
... and it knocked spots off any Gibson I'd ever played.
I now have a 2003 Standard, and a matching bass, also from 2003. (No pics, sorry.)

Just been given this LTD EX400BD by a mate who's uppped and left to travel the world.
Doesn't really do it for me, I'm afraid. Though I guess it's a 'very metal' guitar. I'll stick to Strat/SG/Tele-style, I think.
They are great guitars for metal, the guitarist in the hardcore band that I used to be in had one, I borrowed it for a few days and it was great for what it was. However although the vast majority of what I play is on the metal end of the spectrum, I just can't get on with EMG pickups, again if you want to sound like Hetfield, Hammett, King or Wylde they're great but they don't offer the broad tonal range that Seymour Duncans or DiMarzios do. I used to have a pre lawsuit ESP Explorer (i.e. Gibson shaped, now worth a fortune!!) that had passives and it was awesome as is my LTD Mirage that has Duncan Designs (basically a Seymour Duncan JB bridge and a Jazz neck pup but made under licence) and my LTD Viper that I've put a Dimebucker bridge and a 59 neck into. It's a major annoyance that the vast majority of ESP Ltds seem to come with EMG as if you buy a Korean made one the build quality is superb. Doesn't really do it for me, I'm afraid. Think I prefer the Strat to the right, and probably what looks like an SG with trem on the left...
Well spotted....80's MIJ Strat, mild relic from before relicing (sp), plastics have aged beautifully. Only problem is getting spares for the Kahler trem, which has a couple of worn parts. And a Gibson Zappa/Roxy SG. Managed to snag this from GAK when they were all sold out everywhere else. One of 400, I believe.

Some of EMGs new offerings are really good. I must admit to not being a huge EMG fan previously due to the lack of flexibility, the new 57, 66 and 60s are all really nice. The 57/66 in particular is a great combo. The new X line of ERG pickups are really good too, they used to be rubbish - the EMG 707 is one of my least favourite 7 string pickups but the 707X is a great thing. They're still not as expressive as a good set if Dimarzios, but they have their applications.OldSkoolRS said:

Cheers RS
You're welcome. How are you getting on with it then?
Straight up classic vintage tones at acceptable volumes.
I had a Two Rock Studio Pro 35 previously. This is much warmer than the TR, less sterile if that makes sense. The reverb on this carries extra warmth with shed loads of bottom. Reverb is hands down the best I've heard on an amp. The cleans are epic and it takes pedals very well, running my original TS808 through it.

I know I do, hopefully later this year I'll see about getting the head version. I have a reissue TS808 myself, plus plenty of other OD pedals to use with it.Straight up classic vintage tones at acceptable volumes.

All my gear is packed away at the moment due to having builders in, so I've been practising in the kitchen using my £99 Affinity Tele and a 'free' 12 watt Orange practice amp...I guess things will be sounding a bit nicer in your house this weekend.
