Been looking at those as well but an increase in price and it will be my pub guitar so needs to be something im reasonably comfortable leaving on a rack unattended.
From the ceramic comment i assume this means you wouldnt go mim standard? Strat wise i have use of a 56 reissue jap strat (1980's build) but value has crept up and up on these to the point i wouldnt leave it alone and ideally would like something similar to this. Would the 50's mim re-issue be close or a pale comparison?
Best to try a few out first. When I bought a MIM Standard the first thing I did was junk the ceramics and fit a set of alnicos, but some people don't mind ceramics. They're too harsh and spikey for me but then I prefer more of a vintage sound, I very rarely play in any of the more high-gain styles where distortion can mask deficiencies. A 50s reissue MIM wouldn't be up to the standard of a MIJ (my favourite Strat of all time) but it's still the best for the money in my opinion. As I say, only my opinion! From the ceramic comment i assume this means you wouldnt go mim standard? The Squier Classic Vibes (alnicos) are quite highly thought of also.

Of the two I'd go for the G&L, as I very much doubt it would have those horrible ceramic pickups.
What about a MIM Classic Series? Secondhand they're very reasonable; 50s 60s or 70s style, take your pick.
I can second a vote for the MiM Classic series. I have the Classic 50's Strat from that series (though I won't for much longer, it's getting traded in along with my Fender Supersonic 22 tube amp this month or next for a new bass amp). I've had it since new in 2014 and the quality has really impressed me. The Mexican operation had a lot of input from the custom shop and Master Builder team on those guitars before they went into productiom and it shows. Absolutely top fretwork, a great neck with a high quality finish and a great tone from the instrument itself, with proper attention paid to period features for an authentic feel. I've bought myself a bass, I want a change from guitar and have wanted to play bass for years. It's a 2004 Warwick Thumb bolt on, looks to be in decent condition but more of a player than a case queen. These are some of the seller's pics, I'll take some better ones after it arrives. I may stick the brass Warwick "Adjustanut" adjustable nut on one day, but other than that it will go on as it is.
I'll need to buy an amp too, exciting times.
Looks great. Tremendous basses and one of the most distinctive tones in the industry. It should have an adjustable nut on it, though if it'll accept a modern Just A Nut III it would be a worthwhile upgrade I'll need to buy an amp too, exciting times.
Heads up for a Distortocaster....

The sale is nothing to do with me. I got blown out with my bids, I think the vendor is wanting at least £2.5k.
Too much ££ for me, personally - I can hardly play; my enjoyment is looking at the things. And I could look at this guitar all day, I think it is just wonderful. I'm sure some would disagree.
I've kept a sneaky eye out over the last couple of years and this is the first I've seen for sale.
Just for info.

Just a goofy load of gimmicky rubbish. I can't imagine one serious musical situation that you could turn up and play that heap of ste at.
Can't really argue, but each to their own. Would be boring if we all liked the same thing.I love the fun, humour, style and character it has written all over it.
Kind of gels with my playing ability.

I really like the look of some of the revstars, that one included. Lovely!
What didn't you like about the LP? How similar tone-wise is the Yamaha?
I think it's playing Strats for so many years, the belly cut makes the guitar not just more comfortable but it sort of becomes part of you in a way. LP's feel like they plonked on top of you at least that how it always feels to me (strangely for some reason I don't have this issue with Teles - no idea why). The controls positions are wrong for as well, especially the selector switch, again with Strats everything is in just the right place. The Revstar controls almost feel in exactly the same place so it just feels immediately right. What didn't you like about the LP? How similar tone-wise is the Yamaha?
Sound wise its near as dammit like a LP to my ears, I might invest in some Arcane pickups (Triple Clones) at some point in the future just because they sound so good but there's not much to fault with the standard ones fitted (http://www.arcaneinc.com/)
