^^^This.
It's nice to have nice things, but it won't make me a better player. The secret shortcut to being a great guitarist is... hours & hours of practice, followed by hours & hours of practice, finishing off with hours & hours of practice.

^^^ Indeed. And as Ben says to me "Playing is not Practicing!" Meaning that you won't get any better if you simply play what you can, you have to be constantly striving. Which is why it's such a great pastime. You can never get to the end, there's always more to learn, and yet every step along the way there are successes to celebrate.

Finally got a scratchplate for the blue Spectrum, talk about a ball ache getting it from America. At least it looks good now. Someone asked about selling one of my Charvels earlier in the thread, one of them is now (unfortunatly) for sale, PM me for details. Cheers

Got one guitar an epiphone s.g. in cherry red, had it well set up , a freebie from p.m.t. in leeds (the set up that is) guitar cost around 260 quid but its brilliant. before this i had a cheapo unamed les paul alike that sounded crap, followed by a cheap squire strat. That was bloody awful, just too much treble and tinny sounding through the crappy park 40 watt amp. i'm into blues and a bit of rock. now the s.g. is plugged into an orange crush amp and does all i want. i'm still crap at guitar but constantly practicing and striving to get better. it will happen. best stress reliever i know of other than getting into our lasses pants

I have a 2002 Gibson Les Paul Junior and i'm currently looking at investing in one of the modern LP Studios (they're around £700). Got quite skinny bodys i think. What's the general opinion on the modern studios?

Actually no. I've picked up a Boss JS8, which is an mp3 player with a bunch of Boss effects built in. It's a really good bit of kit. Essentially you play over tracks, you can loop track sections & slow them down and remove the guitar parts, so for example, working out a tricky solo is perfect for this. On that particular vid, I recorded it in one go, then thought it was a bit off, so I re -recorded the audio but couldn't be bothered to rerecord the video, so I just synced it up in windows movie maker, which is why the solo doesn't match up to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZX6R-IxaVaI

Cool. Seems quite expensive that kit, but seems very useful thing to have. No wonder! during the solo bit you were playing the rhythm parts and I was wondering... you seemed comfortable enough to throw in those licks in between chords in the song but the solo didn't seem too big of a stretch from there, so a bit confused why you didn't attempt it! Good stuff!

But to answer your question, the pickups are lovely, much hotter than standard strat pups, but they have an almost glassy edge when the tone is wound up. The downside is I almost never bother with my standard guitar - I just want to hear the JB's all the time

Got a huber Orca 59, loved it so much bought its sister too...fantastic guitars, what an LP should be, fatback , big LP 59 neck, but lovely carved top, fingerboard edging & Kloppman pups in one, Haussel in the other. Pic doesnt show it very well, but thin mat lacquer & aged hardware. I will never buy a les paul again Nik Huber is way ahead, try one
