Les Pauls are fantastic if you can find a good one. I'm not sure what they're like now but I spent years looking for mine so if you love the way it plays then go for it! PRSs are a lot more consistent in my limited experience, or at least I've never played a bad one.
True, the link I posted was of the second or third LP I tried. Masses of sustain, neck not too thick, etc, etc.The PRS was very good and felt like it would be more versatile but I'm not sure I can get away from wanting a Les Paul...
I may have mentioned once or twice I've got a Ron Kirn coming...
It's arrived!
I took a flyer in the sense that I ordered it blind, but went on what others said about them, but now it's in my hot little hands, I have to say it's a fine instrument. The action is ver low, but not buzzy, the balance is perfect, the craftsmanship is incredible, it is frankly yards better than any Fender I've owned & right now, I have three USA strats & a Mexican tele.
I haven't plugged it in yet - at work, but I can't wait to get this through the Vox. It's the old story, if it feels right, it's going to be right. This is really a very high quality guitar. Vote for Ron!

I don't exactly hide my dislike of the Fender tele headstock, but man, that RK headstock looks so good! the curves on that are more graceful and flowing, unlike the short and stumpy (and some may say phallic ) look of the Fender tele headstock.

To get mine playing how I wanted it to took a bit of fiddling so don't be too concerned if it's not perfect initially. Just make sure it's a good starting point. If you saw how the bridge is set up you'd think I was drunk when I did it but it works for me.
Thanks - it's the neck that causes a problem. I've been playing a Schecter S-1 for years and whilst i's sort of an SG shape it's probably closer in neck profile to something from Ibanez so any Les Paul is going to feel like a baseball bat in comparison! Just need to find a nice LP with a 1960s neck I guess...First dicking about with the Barnbuster. Didn't notice the top E going flat. Also no custard but feeling quite inspired by Squeeze at the moment.

It is me. Looking at it, it's full of cockups. There's even a wrong chord in there a few times, should be a c, not an e but it's just to show off the guitar, not my buttery sausage fingers.
You must've messed up on purpose twice as I thought you intended it. (copyright - R Blackmore) Justin Cyder said:

Sounds good. Don't know what your amp setup there is, but it sounds like a good tele. Can hear the sparkly/chimey goodness there also. The headstock shape really looks great on that.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ6gP1PdRck&fea...
Btw, have you got chorus on in that clip?...May be it's that Eb...
Nah, I bent the note in the solo & it went proper flat. It's through a Boss js8, so it's pretty bog standard multifx stuff. Meant to be a rat pedal with a load of chorus IIRC.
Just on the song itself, the progression on the turnaround where it's Maid Marion... is delicious. It goes Bbmaj7, A7, Ab 6+7, G. That would be A flat sixth & seventh in one chord. Took forever to suss that out. Gotta love Glenn Tilbrook.

Did it again, only this time in tune, with the right chords & no chorus.

This time!
Chorus in moderation = good. Metallica levels of chorus = not good.
Now we can really hear the guitar. A tele is such a simple and pure breed of electric, you really owe it to yourself to hear it in all it's naked, sparkling glorious twang. A british-style amp like a Vox really shows off a good tele.

That sounds very nice! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WoQQDZ-XxcU
Just reminds me that I need to get myself a new amp at some point - the Line 6 Spider II really doesn't do the Tele or the Strat justice
