I have a very nice Segull 12 string acoustic. It has a bolt on neck like a lot of segulls of its era and the sound is very nice.
So do my 12-string Taylor and my 6-string Patrick James Eggle. Both sound stunning. There are a lot of things to concern oneself about the way a guitar is built, but whether it's got a bolt-in neck or not is one of them in my view.

it's a very effective way of joining two pieces of wood together as anyone who has used their Strat to smash up their drummer's kit can testify.
hehe well you wouldn't want to use a Les Paul for the task. Pick one up wrong and the neck sts it's self.

But for an instrument alone (those violins and acoustics, but including the electric guitar) a bolt-on neck is a negative factor.
Violins and acoustic guitars are fundamentally different to solid electrics. For solid electric guitars bolt-on necks are NOT negative factors.

The original Fender acoustics were all bolt necks too. I've not had a chance to try one myself but I understand they were good guitars. Personally I prefer a bolt neck on an acoustic as it provides the opportunity to vary the neck tilt to allow for 'bellying', the word many give to describe the way the front of an acoustic can distort under the pull from the strings which can lead to a high action.

Hi again

Sorry- didn't mean to cause an argument about solid necks frown

Anyhow, here's another one!! laughlaugh

I don't know much about this guitar but have a suspicion that it may be home made!!

Pickups are Burns Tri Sonic and whammy is Rangemaster, It came in the lovely Selmer case, Also bought a Marshall DSL401 amp from him too (Bootsale seller) He said that it worked OK when I bought it but I don't think he'd tried it!! The valves are burnt so it'll be going in for new valves and biassing (or whatever it is those wizards do with them!!

Paid £25 each for the amp and guitar...

Cheers, John smile

IMO a Tele is about as pure an electric guitar as you can get, although that one isn't exactly true to the original idea, but still...

Don't want to rub salt in but I only paid £30 for this 1960 Hofner President!!

That was around seven or eight years ago so £30 was worth a lot more laugh

I bought this today on eBay for £50 including the case

It's an old Korean Strat copy, cheap hardware but the woodwork is ok, and the right shape. I'm going to do a bit to it.

Won a slightly abused ESP Viper 50 off eBay the other day, was listed as not working but was just missing the input and the adjustment screws for the neck pup, will post before and after photos when it is finished as I'm at Silverstone at the moment for the classic.

Very nice, big fan of the looks of a string through but have yet to play one.

How are you finding the Blackouts?

I really like them, this is the first guitar I've owned with active pups, so I can't really compare them to others.
I had read that they're not great at clean tones, but to be honest they're good enough for me and I think they sound fine. They're definitley more versatile than me, that's for sure. Sound good for blues and rock, I've yet to venture into some more metal tones with them.

Strangely I asked because I'd heard really good things about the cleans on them in comparison to EMG's. I'm sure they'll acquit themselves admirably with metal. smile

My son's now just over a year old and has owned his Strat copy for all of that time (he's taken a bit of an interest in it from time to time). However, it's not really a very good bit of kit (£25 from ebay) and so I've just replaced it with an Ibanez RG320FM. It arrives soon, I can't wait! Err, I mean he can't wait for it to arrive.
