Regarding Steve Baker at Electric Ladyland in Bristol:
I was wondering what the latest was on this shop. I got an old Simms Watts valve half stack there 25 years ago and I'd live to replace it now. I'll be in the UK in August and it would be great if he was still there.Evangelion said:
Just tried the number again. Nothing. I know it's correct 'cos it's on a poster in the window!
A Google search turned up nothing but you might find this review interesting:

I'll try knocking on the door again next time I'm passing.
Was passing again yesterday and he was there so I went in - actually stayed for an hour and a half chatting! He says the phone has been disconnected for months but he is always there (as he lives upstairs) unless he's popped down the road for some fags etc. So just bang on the back door and he'll let you in.A Google search turned up nothing but you might find this review interesting:

Very nice!Is the paint job original? As they could do custom jobs on order, so if the paint job is from 88 it might be why it has a higher premium. Bit of 'history'.
But I think its way too much. That's 777 Jem money. Check out the charvel model 6, basically a Japanese made soloist, many think the quality is the same. Still get the sharkfins and Jackson pickups.

So a handmade in the USA Jackson is worth the same as a handmade in the USA Ibanez? They're collectable so go for a lot. The green ones which were signed by Cai are the ones that demand the high prices. Admittedly, Japanese quality is meant to be pretty good, I know that the Charvels of the late 80s were seen as equals almost to the US made Jacksons, and have often heard rave reviews on how they feel and play.
Jems will hold their value, plus the Frankenstein paintjob is an acquired taste, so I think the price is high given what other shreddy 80s guitars are out there!
That said if the paint job is from when it was ordered, and it is like new, with everything original and working like it just came out of the shop, then I could see why an *immaculate* one could go for a big price. I don't know enough about the market to say whether it is worth the asking price, but can definitely see the appeal of the definitive 80s superstrat in perfect condition!

Ooh now there's lovely.Personally I'd change the scratchplate but still, what a beaut.
Cheers - it's from '93 and it may well get a respray one day -
The gold scratchplate makes the sunburst tolerable for me!

That said, I always seem to buy cheap guitars!
