Hey now! I remember some time ago there was a poll on the general age group of Pistonhead members and the majority of us are in our Twenties and Thirties. So I was just wondering what sort of music you all listen to and what is your age, or for the shy post if you are in your 20's or thirties.

The thing of it is this; I am 27, and since I was about 24 I have been unable to find a more adult music to listen to. I am a really big original koRn fan, and a general fan of all things rock, but I am 27 years old and it is just not me anymore to be listening to things like mudvayne, deftones, korn, etc.

So in general, I just sort of listen to whatever grabs my attention, which isnt much. But I think dance, house, trance those sort of tunes are a bit more adult if you find the right Dj who is in line with your sort of personality.

But what do most late twenty, early thirty years old listen to?

wow, I wrote alot. Im bored, i have to be honest. And when im bored I like to just write, anything. Is it evident? wink

I am 23 and listen to quite a wide range of music.

Rock and metal such as porcupine tree, incubus, foo fighters, tool, system of a down. But i also have a soft spot for (none cheesey) hardcore, hard dance, trance and drum and bass.

Science is a great album. I liked Serj's solo album, especially Empty Walls.

Nothing wrong with Hard Dance or Trance, I find myself leaning to that too. When I listen to bands like KoRn, Deftones, MudVayne and the likes I find my mind is too busy, with Trance or Dance it is good music to have on and be thinking clearly. its relaxing at the end of a miserable reality, work.

I'm 22 - I adore trance. Armin Van Buuren, Ferry Corsten, Chicane, Above & Beyond etc and good house music when I'm out.

Then on the other hand I love: Bloc Party,Fightstar,Biffy Clyro,Taking Back Sunday, Fall Out Boy, Damien Rice and Brand New etc.

Right through to 80s cheese & power ballads, classical and lots of pop.

The one genre I just can't get my head around is metal, especially stuff like thrash and death metal. But I think it's important to be openminded musically as you can't write off a whole genre. I'm sure there are a few metal songs I like buried underneath all the other stuff I love smile

33 years of age (for a few weeks yet) and I'm into: Rock (classic and progressive), Metal (new and old e.g. I was at the Brixton Academy last Saturday for the Disturbed gig - took my niece and nephew along as well) some Classical (listen to Classic FM daily) some Country (though probably more folksy/bluesy than used to be on CMT Europe), and a little Jazz (sunday mornings with a coffee and newspaper). Pretty much anything except Hip-Hop, R'n'B (though I do like rhythm and blues), Rap (though I have been known to listen to some Eminem) and anything by boy/girl bands (this is psychological antipathy rather than the actual music produced).....
I have more CDs than I can count (even after doing maths at university) and according to my itunes I can play 57 days of non-repeating non-stop music.
I'll also be at the borderline in 2 weeks time for The Reasoning and have tickets for Slipknot in December evil (where's a mosh smilie when you need one) .

Old git me, coming 47 ! Don't see why you should have to 'calm down' in music terms the older you get. I,m still very much into rock and certain metal bands.

In the last year I,ve been to Within Tempation, Epica and Nightwish gigs. Just waiting now for some more tours to get underway. I was hoping that the lovely Tarja would have at least one date in the UK, but not looking good at the moment. cry

24 and I'm a jazz head, listening and playing. Jazz jazz jazz, did my degree in it, teach it, blah blah blah.

Also, getting into my Northern Soul recently, as well as the predictable rock stuff - Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine etc etc.

The only dance music I can stand is Drum'n'Bass, which I quite like - the rest of it, Trance, Hip-Hop, House and the like can go jump as far as I'm concerned!

I'm 26, I listen to Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Machine Head, Lamb of God, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Trivium, Slayer, Trouble, System of A Down, Korn... that is my main choice.

I do occasionally venture into a touch of Drum and Bass, Garage, and the Chemical Brothers. Also The Feeling, Supergrass and various other pop/rock bands do amuse me!

Oh OP 'older music', as long you enjoy the music their is no specific age on a band, and fk growing up anyway, well overrated thumbup

I'm 32 and listen mainly to rock and metal, anything from Aerosmith to Emperor really. If you want music with a more mature aspect to it (although as has been said I don't see why anyone should 'grow out of' certain forms of music really), having looked at the list of bands you listen to you could try Neurosis, Opeth, Between The Buried & Me, Ihsahn, Crowbar, Down, Candiria and Tool to name a few.

I also like some electronic stuff like Leftfield, Prodigy, Massive Attack and Ulver. I like a fair amount of Hip Hop too but these days really only underground stuff like MF Doom and Cannibal Ox these days, the current blingbling stuff does nothing for me. Stuff like Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, NWA, Gang Starr, Wu Tang Clan and older Mobb Deep stuff to me is far better.

I heard a track from Cold, Just Got Wicked, the other day, never heard it before, but it reminded me a little of Tool.

I'm 37, white and into Flo Rida, Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Kardinal Offishall, Usher, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, Stone Gods, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Velvet Revolver, Queen, Bob Dylan, Kylie, Disturbed, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Dio, Green Day, Jack Johnson, Muse, Motley Crue, The Ting Tings, The Rolling Stones, The Cars, Cheap Trick. etc

I really can't make any sense out of it. I do hate most jazz with a passion. Listening to scat is the same as listening to someone scratch their fingernails on a blackboard.

I feel the same way about rnb, I like most styles of music, from blues to industrial metal but rnb makes me want to gouge out my own ear drums. 10 minutes of a repetitive drum beat, a ripped-off, oh er, sorry, SAMPLED, melody from the 80s, and some tt going "ahah, yeah" every 5 seconds.

I'm 46 and although I like a lot of stuff I can mostly be summed up as:

Punk '76-'82.

I personally maintain, however, that most bands playing in a pub or small club situation are far preferrable for a night out to any stadium gigs....
