Thread resurrection...
After an outing to see the Sisters of Mercy on their 30th birthday tour just over a year ago and, in spite of enjoying the show, wondering if it would have been any different a spectacle had it simply been a tribute band playing, I'm throwing caution to the wind again and have grabbed a couple of tickets to see Pete Murphy play an evening of Bauhaus material in Islington in July.
Anyon else going along?

I have two tickets to see Pete Murphy play an evening of Bauhaus material in London on 19th June. The gig's sold out.
I also booked a double room in the hotel right next door. (Premier Inn)
Unfortunately, a last minute opportunity to go to Le Mans has arisen so I can't use either. Anyone wanna haggle me a goth night out on the cheap?
Will split tickets from hotel if you only want one or the other.

I like the short era very early 80s that was post punk but for a lot of sub genres Pre-dance. It's not even EBM, it's more subtle with punk producers who were looking for a new sound.
Here is an example of an Italian post punk record (sounds almost pure punk to me)

They were artists from an Italian scene called the great complotto, who eventually moved on to other forms of early electronic music: check this gallery with some amazing Italian punk band photos!

Than realised that the thread had resurrected from the grave!

Cool
As for tenuous links... closest I got to Johnny Thunders would have been seeing Hanoi Rocks playing a couple of times in Colchester - once in '84 and again in '86, I think.
Loved Hanoi Rocks and The Cherry Bombz. As for tenuous links... closest I got to Johnny Thunders would have been seeing Hanoi Rocks playing a couple of times in Colchester - once in '84 and again in '86, I think.
Saw them both a few times at the old Marquee in Wardour Street.
Just discovered this forum. I too remember the Third Side Club in Bournemouth. It was the place to go if you were Goth, punk, rock a billy, transvestite. Does anyone remember Tweedy the DJ? And what was the name of the transvestite cloakroom attendant? They were such great times. I would travel from the Purbecks every Saturday. We would all meet in the Branksome Arms then onto the club. Great times. I was introduced to the club by a girl I'd met in the Palace Vaults which was my favourite haunt. I can remember going down the stairs and hearing the strains of Changeling by Simple Minds and i knew I'd arrived for a great weekend.

I used to frequent the Vaultz too. Was introduced to it by the vicars daughter from Kinson! Was in my element in my trench coat.news of the death of pete burns had me flicking back through my vinyl from the period. being a little older than our peers we, the elders, were still clinging to bowie/roxy/reed/iggy etc but so many new things flooding in as glam faded and punk burned out.
the scouse "sound" - bunnymen, wah, teardrops, omd etc etc.
obviously joy division
the ultravox (pre midge), simple minds, kraftwerk, gina-x type stuff. the newer electronics - human league, visage, soft cell, japan, cowboys international etc
the embryonic goth-y stuff - bauhaus, sisters etc.
where so you classify the killing jokes, cab voltaire and spear of destiny types?
the odd-balls; vega and rev's suicide, pere ubu, throbbing gristle, certain ratio, associates
the old guard - deaf school, talking heads, etc
the odd punk survivors and phoenixes - buzzcocks, clash, kennedys, shelley
throw in a bit of heavy dub and that's pretty much the playlist on every night out

My Mrs. did the same the other day with her collection and I joined in for a bout of nostalgia, between us we have a lot of stuff from the period of the thread title, and further back too, with the likes of Iggy, Bowie, Lou Reed plus the Velvets, MC5, Patti Smith etc...the scouse "sound" - bunnymen, wah, teardrops, omd etc etc.

The Bunnymen, Teardrops, The Icicle Works, Joy Division, Mary Chain, Bauhaus, Cure, Japan, Spacemen 3 (local band made fairly good and just within the time frame), The Banshees, Buzzcocks, Pistols, Damned, Stranglers etc, although neither of us quite got The Clash. Nearly all of this stuff still sounds good today, without any hint of aging.
