Drum and Bass, namely Metalheadz around the 96 era
Discussion
I am trying to track a tune down, believe it to be Metalheadz, possibly Dillinja but it could be anything.
Its a 1995/1996 tune I think. I was told a long time ago it was by Dillinja, it is possibly on Metalheadz (certainly sounds very Headz).
Doc Scott played it at Desire in 1996 as it's on the tape pack.
Basiclly, to describe it and pick out it's unique parts, I would say that it is a hardstep track that has 2 key moments that set it aside which I will go into later. The track has a long simple intro (very serious synth sound), then a drop which always starts with 2 promiment loud banging beats sounding like something DJ SS would have produced.
The key elements are 1) Just before the drop there is a sound of dripping water, slightly echoed, and then silence before the drop and 2) Once it has dropped there is a bleep sound (bit like a heart monitor) that appears at various points in the tune. After the drop and into the tune, on one occasion this bleep sound makes a "flatline" sound where the bleep goes "beeeeeeeeeeeep" in the background of a little amen lick. Just prior to this long beep there is a descending bassline that gets so loud it slightly distorts the treble and midrange on the tune.
There is a another tune that sounds just like it (probably the B side) which was played alot around 96 aswell, it has the water sound and then before the drop it has a very unique silence followd by 2 bursts of bass, the second burst a slightly higher note than the first... with all sorts if breath and droplet sounds after it. Very dark hardstep. If I can find either tune, I bet they are on the flip of each other or linked in some way by artists etc.

Oh my God, after 12 years of searching, I have found out what it is:

My all time favourite drum and bass tune, words cannot describe it.
The song that sounded like it and eventually led me to it was Armored D by Dillinja. I KNEW there was a link there as they are so similar.
Im over the moon I have found this...

Do you have a lot of DnB from the 90’s? if so, just ignore me, but I was just listening to the Goldie Essential Mix from ’96 recently and that has a few Metalheadz tracks on it so thought of that when I saw this thread. Download here Tracklist Here

I am in heaven at the moment with youtube. Seems I still have enough knowledge of the rare stuff to find it all. I have saved a load of favourites but wanted to share this track. I only ever heard it once in around 12 years of D and B worshipping. I had it on only 1 cassette tape of around 350 that I owned. One of the best if not THE best track I have ever heard.
Listen to the whole thing if you like, or if you want to get straight to the main drop get to 4:08... Mindblowing stuff.

Another more "well known" version of his material here - a remix of Ed Rush and Nico's Technology... Stunning drop at 1:46...

Glad you found what you were looking for. I know very little about the genre, but I do know it's often difficult to find the stuff that does it for you. It's like a minefield in obscurity. I don't know if it's good or bad, but I'm a PFM fan.
I don't know his tracks by name, but he's not done a track that I can put on the headphones and just work like a nutter to! Hugely creative. Not perhaps quite as banging as the previous offerings though.

Not DnB, but I'm a huge fan of this too;

@Dilbert - i loved PFM back in the day! 'The Western' was a fave of mine for years.
What was that tune that went "Is this a game, or is it real..." and then some robotic sounding "whats the difference..." before the drop... Had a submarine sounding bleep all the way through, prob a True Playaz track.
And what was the tune that went "Fight for survival, nobody I'm not going to rival, everyday, everyday.... I'm an everyday junglist"....
