er... but he can't play in time. Does that not matter?

Edit to add... You are obviously a fan mate, and I'm not here to pi55 you off - I am talking from a skill angle, what he could/can do as a player, and that was technically, fu*k all... but I really DO get the importance and infulence of all four Beatles (I've been shouting about how important they are on another thread in here).

They were a MASSIVE influence on my life in the 60's, and one of the reasons I'm now a composer.

Jesus H I only signed up for the £5 argument. I don't want to keep flogging this dead horse. But as Bernard Castiglioni (dummerworld.com founder and pro drummer), says in the previous tribute the ONE THING he could do was keep time. You can google any number of Ringo tributes and you'll find the same comments. I humbly suggest Weinberg and Keltner may know at least as much about drumming as you do.

Do you think maybe that after selling 500 million albums, someone might have noticed the Beatles had a drummer who couldn't keep time before now?

Out of interest, how many hits have you had?

Tee hee.

Well as for 'pro drummer' I could roll out lots of them who think Ringo is a joke - but hey... as you say, £5 is up and I think we'll have to agree to disagree.

As for 'how many hits have I had' well I've been in the charts several times - including a number 1, and I have just relesed the 38th CD of my own work, and I employ between 10 and 200 musicians a year - so I do know a little about who can play in time and who can't!

You?

As for Ringo... all I can say is 'Yellow Submarine'. wink

Richie Edwards (wherever he is, or not as the ase may be) from the Manic Street Preachers.

Musically untalented. However he did write some great lyrics which is part of the whole package so not sure if he should really be included.
He gets my nomination too. He couldn't play guitar to save his life and basically just mimed strumming on stage. There's a story that when he was in rehab Eric Clapton offered to come over and jam with him and Richie had to politely decline.

Definitely the least talented musician in the business, but probably the most intelligent.

I contest!

See! He has shakey things, and he's not afraid to use them! Possibly in a musical, rhythmic manner!

I grudgingly - VERY grudgingly - concede the point

The maracas are there for practical reasons, an onstage stashbox. They work like a big pez dispenser.

Other dancers that don't count include Wochtec, from the Blue Aeroplanes, and Barry Mooncult from Flowered Up.

Britney Spears. Actually, she doesn't even qualify as a musician so not sure she counts at all.

Listen to one of the desk mic feeds of her 'live' to hear why...

There's a lot of vids like that but in fairness if you're singing without monitors so you can hear yourself then regardless of how good you are you'll sound awful as you'd not be able to get the correct pitch.

Been here before! I've always been amazed at the Ringo detractors. He was ideal for the band, and no worse than many pro drummers. Perfect time isn't everything. Especially for pop music.

Remember - no click tracks in the '60s. How many so called pros would hack it in the studio, playing strange signatures without the dummy of the click track.

I have recorded over the years with and without clicks, and often the tempo fluctuations without make the great tracks.

Ringo was an ok drummer, but a great rock star, and the detractors are easily equaled by the pro drummers who were influenced by him. This has been thrashed out on PH before. Personally, I'd rather listen to his perfect drumming on "Happiness is a Warm Gun", (and it IS him), than any Dave Whelk (Weckl) number.

Anyhow, in accordance with the thread title, it's irrelevant, as we drummers are not classed as musicians are we????!

ps. GetCarter. You are 100% right about Yellow Submarine!
