So, name a famous Dutch band?

I'll give you Focus - Progressive Rock at its very best IMHO.

Totally mental but brilliant in their own way.

I've been going through my records and i've got a fetish for Prog: Yes, ELP, The Nice, Focus, Van der Graaf Generator, Genesis and Camel.

Prog is ace. thumbup

May I suggest you listen to this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-King-Crimson/dp/B00065... preferably when there are no children, people of a nervous dispostion or pets nearby, on a half decent stereo system. As much as I love Yes (well, up to Topographic Oceans) and Gabriel era Genesis I don't think I've ever heard a prog album that comes anywhere near to the sinister power contained within the grooves of this record. It's the dark side of prog rock I guess and at no point easy listening, a mixture of hard rock, jazz and classical music that just blows the cobwebs from my ears every time I listen to it.

+1 Red is a pretty amazing album.

I have been listening to a lot of Magma recently liking it quite a bit.

The Enid may not be familiar to a lot of people. They've just announced a few gigs - first for ages. Not for everyone but if you like prog try their first album - In the regioan of the summer stars.

Bloody hell! Saw them at Reading Festival in 1977 (I think). RJG must be ancient

I've tried listening to some King Crimson, can't quite get into it.

But Focus? I remember borrowing my uncles copy of Live at the Rainbow, probably some time in the early 80s. Absolutely blew my mind back then. Still does. Its got a permanent place on both my phone and iPod.

And on occasion knowing them has been invaluable in pub quizzes!

Superb aren't they! Although that version of Hocus Pocus is too fast for me, it loses some cohesion. Now forever etched in mind because last summer me and a mate were tanking down the M1 from London and a particularly emotionally crap day, had just reached Leicester Forest East and the carriageway lighting came on, but there was some sort of fault because they were flickering like a mad thing on acid (fortunately I have 2 other witnesses to back me up) at which point Hocus Pocus came on the radio. Had I not been totally sober, I think I would have freaked out! Great experience though. The yodelly bit always reminds me of Alan Freman's Friday/Saturday night rock show on R1. Alright? Not arf! Oh yes - Lets Rock!
