Anyone else gone CD 'retro'
Discussion
I'm quite into all the new high tech stuff, I own an xbox 360 and iPod, LCD telly and big computer etc
however, I can't really be arsed with MP3's either, I mean, they're great, but I've never bought one (all copied from my own CD's). I listen to them on the computer, but as I said, all from another format. I do quite like spotify though, for odd random tracks, and you can play a whole album, but I think, especially when driving, you can't beat playing a whole album through, maybe most of the albums I listen to, progress, if you catch my drift (Coheed & Cambria spring to mind, all of their albums I feel are like one big song almost).
That, and the fact I've lost my sodding iPod nano at the moment, blasted thing, its far too small!

Never bothered with downloads, it always seemed a lot of hassle and as a semi-illiterate on the IT front, my Googling for certain tracks always returned loads of iffy 'free' links full of fecking spyware and if I'm going to buy music I'll just as well go for the full-fat CD-format and have a physical disc with stuff like cover art and all instead of having a mere file on my harddisk which isn't the most stable storage medium around to put it mildly.
Nevertheless I was going to buy something like a Cambridge DACMagic and plug my computer as well as the DVD player I had then, into it just to be 'prepared' but Kevin Scott of definitive Audio convinced me to go for a simple integrated CD player instead. Glad I did - KISS and if I want a certain track or album I just tap it into the search at Amazon and get it for anything between £0.01 and a few quid plus postage.
For vinyl, I keep rummaging the local second hand record stores...

Can take hours to find the disc, instant with mp3s
After you got it in the first place, that is - which is the part that I can't be *rsed to learn about. Clicking to buy a cd online is so much more straightforward.Admittedly I do have a problem finding anything on vinyl as I just plonked my record collection in the storage in random order when I moved into my current home...
I prefer MP3 in the car simply because I can get more music in and as such I don't need to change discs as often, also I find that an MP3 CD is less likely to skip when you drive over a bump than an audio CD will.
Also I find that CD's aren't the most robust things and as such they often come out of the car with inexplicable scratches on so I always take a copy which is as much hassle as creating an MP3 disc.
Although I prefer the sound of proper CD and Vinyl over modern formats the convenience of being able to select what album you want to hear instantly without having to search for it physically is very appealing. If you have about 100 albums then it's not obvious why this would be the case but if you've 2000+ then it can take ages to find what you want and you have to be really sad about organising them properly and hoping the the Missus will understand your system and stick to it is resulted in everything being ripped to the computer and it being streamed via iTunes to the various systems I have around the house.
