Am getting married in a few weeks and I have two major tasks - the car and DJ. The car was an easy one (beautiful 1950's Bentley) but the DJ is proving to be a pain. He's been recommended and bokked by the Hotel and I thought all I would have to do is tell him the type of music I want and that would be it.

Except its seems he's needs to have songs named for him to play.

Which is where I need your help as I don't know any - we want funky disco style music, stuff like they play in HiFi in Leeds on a Friday night which seems to be along the lines of James Brown etc. I love the music but genuinely don't have any (my music collection is primarily rock). Feel a bit of a twit asking, but heyho.

Can anyone recommend some good music that I can pass onto the DJ.

Thanks

DJs "booked by the venue" are notorious for being exceedingly poor.

However, you are doing the right thing by preparing an explicit list of songs for him to include - although I expect he won't have most of Dodge's list (some really cool classics in there!)

I have been to four weddings in the last year, and at three of them, the happy couple just went with the venue supplied DJ. Truly pitiful..... DJs who had no concept of a playlist, or how to select the correct music for the crowd. The annoying thing is, if they had asked me, I could have given them a list of recommended chaps who would probably not have cost much (if any) more that the venue supplied guy.

At the fourth one, they booked "String Fever" - who play electric versions of classical string instruments... they did two sets, and I put a chap in to DJ before and after - who (on request) played 80s all night

ABsolutely superb.

Completely agree Meeja. All the weddings I've been to recently have been ruined (in my mind) by the DJ. I had full intentions of hiring my own but this guy was recommended by several people who's opinion I do trust, but I didn't appreciate how much of an input I would need. It is only a slight inconvenience really, and he sounds a decent chap on the phone.

I think it sums up the whole wedding experience - nothing that should be easy in fact is.

No problem, assuming they were the sort of thing you're looking for, let me know if you want any more. In particular if you want any more mainstream suggestions. Or help in acquiring said tracks.
