Dern... or if anyone else wants to chip in smile

I think you got your rather lovely Rickenbaker serviced and set up by the chap at sticks n strings in Thatcham ?
And wondered what you thought of the service, price etc ? What did he actually do for you ?
I've been in his old shop a few times, before he moved, and about 5 years back he did put me a new nut on my original guitar, a stratalike copy, 'Hondo' ! from Argos back in the early 90s smile

I've got an oldish yamaha pacifica 112 that I rather like playing, have had for about 3 years.
I bought it second hand for £75 and its physically in good condition, but I've never had it set up.
It plays ok, but buzzes quite a lot on the 5th 6th string, and while I've had a few goes adjusting it myself, I cant help but think a 'professional' setup might be a quicker way to resolving this and any other issues.

i also think the neck might be starting to 'bow' a little, but not sure if its my imagination, or a proper way to tell...

What do people think, is it worth it on such a 'basic' guitar, or am I wasting my money ?
I guess I'm also worried it wont get a 'quality' service compared to if it was an expensive guitar, as the percieved value might make the luthier just do a 'quick' job...

Or should I just have another go at resetting it myself first ?

I dunno, one day I might upgrade it, but I do like playing it, and not sure I'd get much better value from a more high end guitar.. Certianly dont think it would improve my playing wink or singing redface

Hello,

Just caught this before heading off for the w/e.

I have nothing to compare it against but the rickenbacker is now lovely to play so as far as I'm concerned he did a good job. He adjusted the truss rods (two of them) to correct a slight bow, cleaned up the electrics, cleaned the guitar, put new strings on and set up the intonation and action and all that stuff.

I think it cost me about 50 quid with a set of strings.

I have an old peavey which could do with a good looking over and I'm quite tempted to do it myself but I'm only prepared to do that because I don't need it to work again (3rd guitar now and never gets played) wink

I'd take your yamaha in and show him it and express your concerns. He's a nice bloke smile

Good luck,

Mark
