Given that this is 'favourite' and not 'best' and not having read the whole thread but I'd like to suggest Billy Bragg... ok, technically not great but I like the feeling and the sound of the chap's guitar work.

I'm partial to a little slide/bottleneck, so....
Lowell George
Jerry Douglas
Sonny Landreth

and the first "rock" guitarists in the late '50s early '60s
Scotty Moore
Roy Buchanan
Eddie Cochran
Robbie Robertson
James Burton
Chuck Berry
and Mick Green and Joe Brown over here

and, of course, the likes of T-Bone Walker and Buddy Guy

and my local (Welsh) heroes like Dave Edmunds and Mickey Gee.

My secretary was Mickey Gees sister in law. He's sadly missed.
