I was going to nominate this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ppjI6KZHlE ...but didn't want to invoke thread drift, just listen to that percussion...

You are kidding? Their bass player is bang average & he looks like Keith Lemon.

nope - I love the bassline and don't judge music by what the musicians look like

opinions differ on music - who'd a thunk it!

You should totally judge musicians on what they look like hehe

Fair enough, one man's Mazart is another's nails on a blackboard, but I wouldn't have put that guy in the top 500 personally, his bass lines invariably follow the melody on a single note, it wouldn't be possible to provide a bass line for the band with less creativity than that.

and it sounds like you play, whereas I don't - so you approach it from more of a technical perspective than me

It'd be boring if we all liked the same things - I actually think the bass in F.I. is pretty appropriate playing for the kind of music they make & they're all about the frontman as an outfit anyway. Just not someone in the creatively talented file for me.

Read an interview with Guy Pratt yesterday, Floyd's live bassist for a good few years & he was asked in it where the best bass lines live & he said Disco & I'm inclined to agree. Not many genres put bass up front, but that did & boy did they respond.

I play but I always think of the music listener first and the performer second when I'm evaluating music, and that was absolutely bland dreck. There is a time and a place for thumping 8ths and that wasn't even a good example of thumping 8ths.

Richard Searle is very underrated imo. Although that particular song is a Quincy Jones cover with the chorus from the Generation game thrown in here & there.

Pretty much anything written and played by Bernard Edwards is good.

Bit off the wall, but this by Freddie Washington, covered by a Spanish girl, Marta Altesa. First of all, it's a killer slap bass line but the interesting thing about the video linked is she's a Spanish musician who built a following on You Tube & from that, got picked up by Jamiroquai & ended up touring the South American leg of one of his tours.

Good going!

I've always thought The Only Mistake by Joy Division had a great bass line:
