Sorry... my response did seem a little dismissive! My faves are probably from Bach's Brandeburg concertos. As for bass guitar, well early Pastorious I guess. Thousands have copied him, but he did it first (and I've never heard anyone be so innovative or creative since).

All IMHO of course, (and a bass line doesn't have to be any good to be a fav... it just has to be a fav!) but for the record, I've been a pro bass player for 30 years (and am happy to admit that none of my bass lines would ever appear in a fav bass lines thread!)

Babylon and ting.

Actually, the best bassline ever is Two Tribes by Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

Yes, it is. Although Andy Fraser playing Mr. Big is a good demonstration of "feel" bass playing, especially given how young he was when he co-wrote it.

I'm also a fan of the Cookie Crew's take on Roy Ayer's Love Will Bring Us Back Together.

Many reggae songs but a couple that spring to mind:
Fred Locks: Love and Only Love
Capital Letters: Smokin' My Ganja

Jet

Good point - it's automatic to think bass guitar but that really narrows it down massively...
