Best baseline ever.

Not sure about base lines but Michael Anythony who used to be Van Halen was awesome.
What about No More Tears, Ozzy Osbourne.

I went to see Level 42 in Sept and Mark King is pretty handy with a Bass.

none of the above.
what are your fav. basslines ?All IMHO of course, (and a bass line doesn't have to be any good to be a fav... it just has to be a fav!) but for the record, I've been a pro bass player for 30 years (and am happy to admit that none of my bass lines would ever appear in a fav bass lines thread!)
Weather Report's Heavy Weather holds a particular gem for me..."Teen Town", beautiful playing, and the way the bassline intertwines with Zawinuls keyboard, particularly in the bridge is lovely, I'm getting goose bumps just thinking about it.
Latterly, Tony Levin is a bassist I admire a lot - some of his work with Peter Gabriel is worth looking out (although some is playing a Chapman stick rather than a bass)
gotta be sisters of mercy - lucretia my relefection - simple but perfect:

My fav. basslines..... best doesn't exist..
Glory of Man - Mike Watt - THe minutemen
Lincoln Highway Dub/Santeria - Eric Wilson - Sublime
neither are technically difficult
both are integral to the song
both have a great sound
as much as i;ve played guitar over the years - those 2 tracks make me pick up the bass every time.

Plenty of Simon Gallup (The Cure).
As for individual songs, I suggest Stella Was A Diver And She Was Always Down by Interpol.
As I mention the Cure, just been listening to the Faith album, the track Primary is pretty much two basslines running in unison throughout, great track.

I really like this one from Daft Punk - Face to Face:

I appreciate it isn't a 'bassline' in the classic sense of the word but I think it's some of the most creative sampling I've heard used in a dance track. And I still can't figure out what they all are!
Also, Jamiroquai, Travelling Without Moving:

Just two that jumped out - there's a billion more...
