Time for you to discover the roots of heavy music by going back to the late 60's and through the 70's and listen to Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Vanilla Fudge etc. oh and maybe a bit of Led Zep, Fields, Rhino, Bubble Puppy, Focus there are so many that fit your taste.

You'll get good musicianship with proper vocals often including quality harmonies.
Hello

To clarify I have a large back catalogue of most things pre 1996 (when I left Uni)> I have a lot of Sabbath albums (even the dodgy ones), Led Zep etc

Shouting is ok, so Rage Against the Machine is fine (have all their albums) but what I can't stand is the screaming stuff e.g Cradle of Filth (nice blokes though).

I haven't heard anything "new" that I really like. The only band that have done soemthing different is Enter Shikari, but I don't really like them.

Maybe I'm just becoming an old fart!!!!

I second the suggestions of Audioslave and Velvet Revolver! Slipknot's recent stuff has also included less screaming and a bit more singing so try their latest album.

Good call. But that opens up a whole new playing field. The best band of this genre by far IMHO has to be Dark Tranquillity. Get either Haven or Projector and one won't be disappointed.

Zwan - same vocalist as Smashing Pumpkins'

Audioslave - same vocalist as Soundgarden

Temple of the Dog - same vocalist as Soundgarden

Chris Cornel (solo work) same vocalist as Soundgarden

Pearl Jam

Mayfield Four - Epic voice

The Answer - genericy, but very good.

Clutch - similar to heavier Soundgarden songs

Fu-Manchu - similar to Clutch (I beleive their catagorized as Stoner Rock)

Early Incubus albums? - Never found anyone who likes rock to dislike them

Oh, and another vote for Alice in Chains - Epic.

ah well, worthy of a repost.

I saw em......last year?...in the Odeon which was way too small for all that power but still the best I've ever seen
