It doesn't seem right giving the best rap song of all time to a white chap though...
Eminem - Stan. I suppose it does seem a bit strange giving the accolade to a white guy, but hey, the boy done good, in a music sense anyway.
No doubt, he has more lyrical talent than almost any rapper you can name.

This.

Although as mentioned before it does seem strange that the number one rap artist of all time is white. But then again, most 'black' rap music is just chart rubbish.

Agreed.

I have listened to his stuff so many times, and granted when I bought my first album of his I was 12, but I still to this day hear new things in his songs, and I just laugh to myself as I now get it..

Kind of like Forrest Gump where you see him going on about Apple etc smile

ETA: Something of interest for some. Looks a bit dated now maybe but at the time it was the absolute bks!

Beat Street - The battle.

The tune is 'Breakers Revenge' by Arthur Baker if anyone is interested.

Have to admit I'm no big fan of rap, But if Eminem can win it with a cheesy story spoken over forgettable background muzak then here's my favourite from the original white rapper:

Not a fan boy at all. I have a huge collection of hip-hop.

He is one of the best there has ever been, whether you like that or not it is fact, obviously the last 3 albums have been ste, much like Jay-z, but some of the older stuff was genius.

I cant agree with any of Eminiem accolades given here.

I dont think his lyrics are especially good. I dont think his style is especially skillful. I think his tracks are overproduced. He portrays himself as someone who is willing and able to fk the mainstream, not caring what anyone things, yet he is as deep in the mainstream as any other entertainer. His attempt to get his homeboys on his coat tails with D12 was an embarrassment.

Granted, he had some original ideas early on but I think about the only thing he can be credited with is making white kids feel credible for liking like hip hop. Everyone can access rap now, thanks to him.

But how long can he trade on name dropping and whinging about his mum and ex g/f?
