Hi Big Dub.

Sorry this may be slightly off topic, but what do you use to create your mixes? Do you mix everything by hand (i.e. actually record live mixing using cd decks or turntables), or do you do everything through software?

The reason I ask is because I used to dabble in trance mixing years ago using vinyl and turntables (did some stints on uni radio on Nottingham in early 2001 and 2002). I've been looking at getting back into it as I still listen to loads of non commercial dance and trance stuff. It's quite nice looking at your track listings and knowing of just about every artist on there smile

Oh yes, I will be downloading your mixes and running them through my Bose sound system in the car. Just wondered how you made them. Thanks. smile

P.S. I listen to this stuff so much that even my fiancee is into it now. She loves the melodic, vocal stuff, especially anything with a Christian Burns or Emma Hewitt vocal on. She even wants to go and see Above and Beyond or Armin with me when they are next in the country. smile

For now, it's all through software, as I just can't afford CD decks and a mixer.

I used to DJ with vinyl years ago and would love to get back into things properly with the new tech.

Thanks chap.

Which software? Or is it a trade secret? smile

You can tell it's software because (now, you may want to stop reading to avoid ruining any future enjoyment of listening to mixes as you will start to look out for this signature noise)...

... I'm not being funny, there is no joke but there is potential to ruin your future enjoyment, if you're not "in" production and just enjoy listening to mixes, it would be a bad idea to discover why it's obvious...

... anyway, as I say, the way to tell is the smoothness of sustained notes/sounds... for instance, a vocal "Ooooooooooh" can become "O-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-oh" if it isn't played in its "native" tempo. (This can also be a side-effect of converting down to a lower quality of sample but is definitely an issue when the tempo is changed while maintaining key as the software (or indeed hardware in CD decks) re-samples segments of the tune at a different tempo on the fly.

Personally, I find it annoying and when creating mixes, or simply CDJing, you have to watch out for this anomaly.

Never noticed it before, I'll see if I can spot it. It won't affect my enjoyment of making and listening to the mixes though.
I wouldn't have a clue about the production side of things, I'm not musical, so I'll never be making my own tracks, I just enjoy mixing smile

Christ on a bike!
I've not listened to trance since about 2004 (during the great depression at gatecrasher.)

Gotta admit fella, your #11 mix........ Brilliant thumbup
I'm 10-minutes in and already the volume has been turned up biggrin

Really, really good.

Been a long time since i heard the dark sound of trance, with the likes of mauro picotto (sensation black '05? - amazing!)

Do you know the story of Oliver Twist?
Yes, I would like some more please.

Nice to see somebody else into 'big room' trance.
Thankyou for posting up your mixes, I also sometimes mix trance mainly 97-03 era.
Not taking anything away from your efforts, well done, I personally prefer to hear dance music mixed and beatmatched by ear manually though.
I'm 42 very soon, and still hav'nt lost the passion for mixing !
Got my first set of twin decks aged 11, and hav'nt stopped since smile
I recently bought serato which is awesome, I mix mp3's on a laptop but they are controlled by timecode vinyls on my technics turntables, best of both worlds ....
