Right here we go, two instrumentals and some British beef.
Intervals - Bedroom band from Canada - using Axe-FxII and Superior Drummer 2.0 with great effect.

The HAARP Machine - Bedroom band from the Herts/North London area, this 22 year old British Asian lad has a great technique.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYX7npixFqo
Finally, 'The Safety Fire', personally one of the most exciting new British bands for me - touring the US at the mo.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROR4KWUA9rg
By the way when i say 'bedroom band' I mean all recording etc carried out in someone's room probably with a Mac and an SM57.
All good stuff, the lad in The HAARP Machine is mesmerising. Intervals - Bedroom band from Canada - using Axe-FxII and Superior Drummer 2.0 with great effect.

Don't know if they're heavy enough for you guys but I've been getting back into Helloween again after finding my brothers Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt.1 and 2. I'd forgot how good they are, any more of their fans on here?
I was in the shed earlier and found a bin liner full of t-shirts that the wife had hidden from me, in there was my Keeper Of The Seven Keys shirt, bought at Donnington '88.Saw Meshuggah and Animals As Leaders last Tuesday, a very intense experience, awesome.
At the risk of sounding all Victor Kiam, I liked that Belzebong track so much, I purchased the EP from their Bandcamp page. Awful lot of heavy for $5!

Forbidden live...with Gene Hoglan filling in on drums. Like you do. Russ not quite hitting the high notes of old, but still pretty fierce.

That's pretty mighty!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATJilg129f8
Observations:
- it's a shame the audio on the video is so biased to the guitarist on the left of the stage.
- did Russ always like pies that much?
- it's refreshing to hear that vocal delivery, in these days of screaming, growling and whining (Asking Alexandria, et al)
- That's Gene fking Hoglan to you. What a monster!

In a similar vein, let's find us some witches with Matthew.I love this video - it makes me grin like an idiot every time, and I bet they had a brilliant time making it.
If we set aside the Marilyn Manson Meets The Cure visual affectations, I'm quite enjoying this Deathstars track.
I know, I know. It's Saturday morning, you're nursing the remnants of a hangover, and you're sitting there, saying to yourself, "Why hasn't that CJ posted any links to Portuguese electro cyber metal lately? What is wrong with him?"
To correct this terrible oversight, here's some Noidz.

I didn't mind The Safety Fire song, but if there was one thing lacking for me it was the 'beef'. The other two songs were fine but I find a lot of those too technical for me to enjoy.CommanderJameson said:

I've considered posting Deathstars in here in the past to see what you thought. While I don't think it was due to fashion, they've changed a lot since they were known as Swordmaster..Not really related to anything posted recently but I finally, after 10+ years or so, have given Lykathea Alfame a go, and I am impressed. I would guess a mixture of The Berzerker and Fear Factory/SYL/DT. Essentially Experimental Death Metal. Apart from the speed at times it is quite accessible. Very good stuff for a one album band, and almost typical of Czech Metal.
The vocals aren't the greatest at times, but I can forgive them for some awesome tunes:
Lykathea Aflame - Bringer of Elvenefris Flame
Lykathea Aflame - A Step Closer

Observations:
At the risk of covering old ground, the vocals are what makes so much modern stuff so dull for me, as they suck any character out of the music. People talk about how people can scream or growl "perfectly", but that's missing the point for me. Genuinely angry music does not have perfect vocals, that's the whole point of being angry, so to present that style of singing as "anger" in modern metal is simply insincere, not to mention rather unimaginative. And yes, you do sense Russ is no stranger to the ways of the pie.Observations:

Nice bit of old school doom for a Sunday afternoon - Pilgrim
Liking that a lot.
ETA - for those with less time to spare, they do shorter songs as well

Having owned it for a month or so now, just how fking good is Unto the Locust by Machine Head? It could be even as good as Empires
Couldn't disagree more! Machine Head haven't produced anything good for a long time. Totally baffled by the hype around empires also. Cliched, formulaic, lazy crap. I actually find it embarrassing to listen to.militantmandy said:

Ashes was a great album imo but The Blackening was completely overhyped (never quite understood why everyone had that on a pedestal....).Unfortunately, like Fear Factory, MH are saddled with the weight of having their first two albums as easily their best. They continue to show snippets of brilliance but necessarily deserve the reverence afforded them (imo).
In comparison, Lamb of God (seen as we're discussing 'commercial' metal)have yet a to produce a less than brilliant album (Resolution ranks of one of my all-time favourites).

I've still not sat down and deliberately listened to any Lamb of God. Likewise Mastodon, until very recently, and that was only because someone said Orange Goblin's "Eulogy for the Damned" sounded a bit like "The Hunter". As for Machine Head, never really "got" them in the first place. I blame them (and Pantera) for creating that whole "grrr, look at me, I'm very angry!" cliche, so they've never really appealed.hornet said:

Blame Exhoder, they're the true kings of "grrr, look at me, I'm very angry!" metal imoGassing Station | Music | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
