I only ever got Draconian Times! At the time I loved it but my lasting memory of them was the whole atmospheric goth metal thing, so I never bothreed since!

Just checking out Rise of Denial - that's quite a change from Draconian Times!

Same here I think, barring a few Peaceville samplers. Sort of drifted off into the likes of Electric Wizard and Cathedral to get my doom fix after that, as the gothic stuff always felt a bit...wafty.

Something else from way back when that still rocks my socks :-

Loved the Sonic Flower track.
I bit more stoner.

i liked the second part of that track.

the whole sonic flower album is ace.

i vary between the beardy rock stuff (clutch, etc)and the "mind ka-boom" doom stuff (leccy wiz, etc). I love the spacy stoner rock the most, though. the rock walrus, dave wyndorf rules...

guilty pleasures: 3 piece power riffy instrumentals.

i'll be at sleep/melvins/slayer next friday if anyone fancies a pint...

Russian band The Moon Mistress sound a lot like Come My Fanatics era Electric Wizard.

Liking this at the moment. At first it sort of reminded me of BFMV without the gheyness, but actually I think that's a bit harsh.

Night Is The New Day by these guys is a masterpiece.

Apparently there's a new one on the horizon, too. Can't wait.

Bit too safe for my tastes...no real soul to it.

Sounds like Asking Alexandria to me. Totally formulaic.

Wouldn't go quite that far, as they at least shy away from the "crouched down gripping the mic" thing, but yeah, it's all very "inoffensive modern metal by numbers" isn't it?

I think I'm turning into Vyvyan and his Good Life rant It's all so bloody NICE! smile

I'd wait for the "proper" video before saying that...

Valid point. That's now the only reason I have to follow them, just to see what the next video looks like! Disused warehouse and/or mid-thunderstorm maybe?

Found this on a YouTube trawl Be'lakor and not entirely sure what to make of it? Plenty of "modern metal" melodic sensibilities, but without feeling generic. Also has a nice blackened feel to it, which is probably what makes me like it.

Cripes, just caught up on Paradise Lost by listening to "Honesty in Death" and "The Rise of Denial". Fairly melodic by my recent standards, but still heavy with it. Certainly gives a lot of the new "melo" breed a lesson or two in actual songwriting, rather than just throwing twiddly bits about and screaming a lot. Me like.

Talking of bands having a return to form, reading reviews of Anthrax apparently putting in an absolute stormer at Hammerfest has made me check out "Worship Music" again, and I must say it's growing on me. Had kind of written them off in recent years, as they'd turned into a tribute act to themselves, but maybe there's life in the old dogs yet!
