Ticks oh so many boxes for me. Pointy logo, Nuclear Assault cover art and even a hint of John Connelly about the vocals. Great fun.
fking hell i thoght that was connelly for a minute.it`s like slayer and nuclear assault have joined forces.takes me back to when i was at school.i got "survive" and learned every note of every song on the guitar over the course of about 4 days!everything was still tuned up at standard e tunings then.in fact ,fk it, i`m going to dig my old vinyl out now,get my les paul out and tune it all the way back up from c to e and thrash out

Ooh thrash! There's so much more thrash I need to listen to, I love the big four, Testament, Exodus, and Annihilator. Need to find some more bands to listen to...
i remember when i first heard annihilator on raw power.alice in hell.my god i was hooked.i always admired how jeff waters could absolutely shred till the cows come home without sounding like twiddle just for the sake of it(like hanneman and king out of slayer).
flicking through the old vinyl i think the golden age of thrash was definately 86-90 and after that it sort of just got overtaken.it`s great fun going back through some old stuff now though!
it makes me feel old looking on the back of survive by nuclear assault and seeing 1988!!i remember buying it when it first came out!you KNOW you are old when you look around your workplace and realise there are lads in your employ that aren`t as old as some of the records in your collection

i think a lot of this doomy stuff has stty production.very "wooly" sounding to my ears.i agree about the thrashy stuff.20 years ago all i wanted to hear was crazy bpm.i think with the advent of bands like helmet managed to get it slow with a real " bang your head" groove to it all.i don`t think really fast stuff works anymore.it doesn't leave enough room for everything to fill out and become interesting unless it's something with half time drop speeds or the like.this is why i can't take all that blast beat st.technical, yes but musical,no

Great thread.

I suspect my tastes are somewhat similar to Tuscaneer. As I get old I strive more and more to find new acts with a clean tight sound.

My bag in the 90s was quite varied, having come from a rave grounding; Fear Factory, Pitchsifter, Metallica, Sepultura and the best metal act of all time Pantera.

But then I got into Deftones massively, and that led on to Tool (greatest metal musicians imo), which led to APC. Then System of A Down came along and then I got a little bored of most of the tripe that was being released. But then I discovered SikTh, who sadly are no more.

More recently got into Chevelle although I suppose many qould consider them quite commercial sounding.

But I'm liking TesseracT I have to say, and Cloudkicker is another highlight for me from this thread.

But here's my blast from the past. Having listened to this album again recently I still don't think I've ever heard anything greater in the world of metal.

3.27 for me, the way this builds..........hairs on end and something in my eye stuff
i agree fella, pretty much the whole thing!
liking that tre kid a lot as well.that lady ga ga thing was pretty funny.baqck when we were playing regularly my favourite left field cover version was "like to get to know you well" by howard jones.it's surprising how heavy you can make that song sound!

sorry in advance to the black metal boys but i find it all very embarrasing.rhythmically, when everything is played at breakneck speed you lose a lot of dynamism.this is why i can't abide blast beat stuff.very accomplished i know but totally devoid of any sympathy to the other instruments.then we get to the vocals.either the pig squeals or the feux gruff barks.it all sounds so....fake to me.don't get me wrong, screamy vocals totally work in a "deftones" way, but not in a "death" way.for me at least.

seeing as we are talking kerbdog...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OupA5wt3IKQ

fking criminal these guys weren't huge.i can't even find "on the turn" album version on youtube!!played with them once years ago and can honestly say they were the loudest small venue band i have ever heard.painful.but superb!
