So who's coming to Godflesh/Neurosis on Sunday then? I know we did discuss it a while ago but no-one seemed to know what they were dong then.
I was one of those in the discussion but sadly I won't, another weekend in London including a Sunday night is just not viable for me.. You will have to give us a report, I am sure it will be crushing.Gompo said:

That's a shame mate, I will certainly do that, I'm sure it will be too, the new Neurosis album is amazing, I listened to Godflesh 'Songs of Love & Hate' today as well for the first time in ages, which has only served to heighten the expectation. Those lovely people at AcidReignTV have loaded a gig from the European tour with Nuclear Assault, notable for featuring a certain John Connelly helping out on guitar.

Storming cover of Whiplash in there as well, which is nice. They could really thrash it up when they weren't dicking about, and stuff like Life in Forms still stands out for me.

I have downloaded the Neurosis but not got around to it yet, it will be heard this week. It's annoying not being able to make it this Sunday but there's always going to be gigs I can't make especially when they're London only, I am fortunate that it isn't a bad journey for me and have family there.
I have been looking at gigs for the following weekend as I am back down again, there's a few BM bands playing at The Black Heart; headlined by Necro Ritual. I seem to remember you mentioning you were friends with these lot?

Lawnmower Deth in Islington on the 15th Promises to be very silly indeed.
Interestingly, there's also a listing for March 1st 2013 saying "Repulsion". Now if that's THE Repulsion...
Gone off them in more recent years, as they've morphed into a sort of sub-power metal outfit, but been enjoying a bit of Grand Magus tonight.
Here's the newer stuff, by way of contrast. Just lacks that bluesy soul to it and has drifted towards sounding like ever other Viking obsessed euro-metal band out there. Goes nowhere near doing justice to his voice either IMO.

Couldn't agree more about Grand Magus. All went downhill after Monument. Lost all the soul and turned into generic power metal by numbers. Not "bad" in it's own right, but not what I had hoped for. Seen them quite a few times though and despite their move towards a more trad. power metal sound, they're still a great live act and top blokes as well. Here's the newer stuff, by way of contrast. Just feels like they jumped on board the "hey look, the gaming generation likes Vikings and inoffensive bands like Blind Guardian, let's change our sound!" bandwagon. Shame, as the debut is a fantastic album. More recent stuff just sounds like a Swedish take on Firewind or something.james_gt3rs said:
Fairly recent discovery for me (most on here will remember it coming out, but I hadn't been born!), Obituary. The sheer atmosphere on this song is just incredible, as are the parts where they slow down!
I do love some Obituary (Slowly We Rot!) but god damn the vocals are just awful!Swervin_Mervin said:

MM absolute ste. Lasted for about 3 songs before going to the floor bar. He sounded drunk or drugged up or both. Don't think they had done a sound check it was that bad.RZ brilliant, completely blew MM of stage, thankfully RZ was headliner.
All the usual movie back drops with a clear and pumping sound. Nice to see him in the crowd as well, not like Rammstein in the boat but walking around amongst us. He's not a very big bloke. :-)
Jesus Frankenstein
Superbeast
Meet the Creeper
Living Dead Girl
More Human Than Human
(White Zombie song)
Theme for an Angry Red Planet
Mars Needs Women
Drum Solo
Never Gonna Stop (The Red, Red Kroovy)
Sick Bubble-Gum
Scum of the Earth
Pussy Liquor
Thunder Kiss '65
(White Zombie song)
Guitar Solo
School's Out
(Alice Cooper cover) ( about half the song)

Talking of vocals, some kind soul has loaded the Napalm Death tracks from the North Atlantic Noise Attack LP...this was possibly my first exposure to them, as I'd have been 15 or so at the time, which about when I started delving into more extreme musical waters.

I love the vocals! Proper creepy crawly death metal rather than the sea of identikit growls and screams we have now. Likewise old Autopsy. This used to be fields etc etc
SWR still sounds marvellous and fresh, even if it was recorded on a dodgy 8-track in a shed.

Along with Vile Vibes, Grindcrusher, The Pleasures in Life (very early Nuclear Blast sampler), the Strange Fruit Hardcore Holocaust series and the various Speed Kills LPs. Happy days. Still got 'em somewhere. Might even be worth a few quid, who knows Gassing Station | Music | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
