This week, I 'ave been mostly listing to....Teitanblood.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDmUagGCZX4

Sounds like Autopsy and Blashphemy having a fight, via some Symphonies of Sickness style grind passages. Not exactly an easy listen, but worth it.

sempiternal is a fking class album!!

i'm in agreement about the karnivool album....some cracking bits but very self indulgent.

my latest buy has been the new intervals album.more djenty than djent itself but a bloody good effort.

periphery's latest ep quite experimental in a good way....I can feel a shift away from pure djent as a reaction of bands fighting to stand out from the crowd.which is a good thing.

Latest purchases for me are Crowbar - Symmetry In Black and Godflesh - Decline and Fall, enjoying both at the moment and it's good to see Godflesh back. Might have to pick up Tombs - Savage Gold and Goatwe - Constricting the Rage of the Merciless soon as well:
Goatwe - FBS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQMyOFHhS2k
Tombs - Edge of Darkness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFZYWKgK2bk

I was thinking about mentioning the new Godflesh myself, a solid comeback really. Did you bother with Grey Machine? I enjoyed it, but do find some Godflesh hit and miss.

I'll have to go one year, at the moment I am preferring smaller festivals though. Any bands you're particularly looking forward to?

Too much faff currently to link from my phone, but a couple of underground bands I've heard recently have albums available for less than a fiver from Facebook / Bandcamp.

Tacit Fury - Russian death metal, quite old school sounding.

Mosh Pit Justice - Bay Area thrash, vocals sound like early Forbidden Evil with some of the technicality of Heathen. Debut album is a bit raw, but they have a Kickstarter project running currently (successful) for their excellent new album where you can get both for about 8dollars.

Hellfest used to be smaller, they have managed to keep most of the atmosphere though, but it's still not the same when it's 100000 instead of 10000,

Really looking forward to Vreid, that should be good, never seen them before, and only recently discovered them.

I don't have a problem with the 10000 festivals (I am going to Bloodstock, despite it generally being quite average) and imagine 100000 would still be interesting, just enjoy the small cheaper ones, especially if there's a handful of bands that I am really into. Can't beat 2-3 days for 40 Euros with 300-1000 people or so. Sadly the beer never seems particularly cheap!

Hope you enjoy Vried, I've seen them and enjoyed their performance.

The Hellfest line-up looked brilliant but all I could think was how many bands would clash. Bloodstock is bad enough just with the splits between main and Sophie stages.

I'm looking forward to Bloodstock this year, mostly for Obituary, Carcass, Flotsam and Jetsam, Amon Amarth and Evil Scarecrow. I think Saturday has the least interesting day for me.

New mastodon album is available for streaming. Only given it one spin. Usually takes me a few listens to make my mind up with mastodon so I'll reserve judgement. Seems like an improvement over the Hunter though.

the tour with animals as leaders is great news..i'm a bit sad that ashe has left because the vocals on the last album were phenominal............but Daniel Tompkins is just about my favourite metal vocalist with tesseract's debut being flawless in my eyes

Well, just got back from working as a drum tech on the New Blood stage at Bloodstock Open Air - what a fantastic (and slightly surreal) experience. From sorting out the drums for the best part of 40 bands over 3 days to sitting on Megadeth's rack amps on the side of the main stage watching Obituary with 2 members of Amon Amarth stood next us, insane!

Anyway, some stand out bands from our stage (and pretty much all the bands were brilliant this year)...

Byzanthian Neckbeard - sludgy doom heavyness and possibly the best band name of the weekend

http://youtu.be/byLG1mgCpnI

Akb'al - Prog stoner psychadelic metal (almost like a faster Osric Tentacles) featuring the excellent drumming skills of Mic Hourihan (Desecration, Onslaught). It was a masterclass in obscenely fast, tight drumming that I'd have paid good money to see.

http://youtu.be/IHgenB1w8Ug

Canyon Observer - Hypnotic doom

http://youtu.be/L6fT4btAgic

Kill All The Gentleman

http://youtu.be/ljaQcVoiep0

Psykosis - Proper party thrash a la Gama Bomb, my band of the weekend
