Evil Scarecrow's new album "Galactic Hunt" is now out (I was at the launch party on Friday and it was unbelievably silly) and it is awesome. Produced by the legendary Russ Russell, it is superbly heavy and every bit as silly as ever, with more technicality and epicness than previous releases.

I highly recommend this.

Tool is just tool. I suspect calling them nu-metal might cause Maynard to burn your house down.

hey were awesome! Expected the singer to still have dreads hehe they were really good! Closed their set with some reggae, too. Which was amusing and really well done!

American Head Charge were awesome, fairly lively set and were chatting to everyone, really sound guys.

Soil were really good too, not listened to a huge amount of them but they were awesome!

Dude from AHC liked my mushroomhead shirt, too hehe

I remember keenan being pressed on the issue years ago and him losing his rag. the only tag that didn't seem to enrage him was "alternative"

I thought it was a very poor show when they were filming that story of metal series that was on sky arts 1........the cheeky fker didn't even show up after that guy had made an appointment and flown out to meet him.

He often comes across a bit "rock and roll".

Have we already had Leprous? I'd never heard of them till yesterday. My guitarist is trying to persuade me to go and see them this weekend. He's a huge Devin Townsend/SYL fan so I can see why he likes this. Not my usual cuppa but I was shedfaced on the bus ride home last night and I was really, really enjoying this:

I've recently dug out my Tool albums and did a bit of swatting up. Apparently they are a cross over between progressive metal and psychedelic metal. All I know is they a fking awesome and I'd forgotten how good they are.

Also dug out the original Slipknot album, Machine Head albums and Slayer albums for the first time in about 8 years. Forgot how much I like the genre. It's like I'm 16 years old again smile

Was very tempted but I didn't feel there was anyone I must see, so not this time. Only done two previous, for what it is, it is good value. Could do with a better venue though..

I take it you are going; who are you most bothered about?

I've been a few times, couldn't agree more about the venue, puts the Mrs off the whole thing as it's so cramped, especially in the lower stage. Its a good social occasion as friends from London always travel up, and we travel down.

A Forest of Stars and Wondensthrone are probably my main bands of the day, seen most other bands fairly recently that I am interested in. I have never seen A forest of stars, not sure the last time, if they ever have, been up in Scotland.

AFoS were the band that got me thinking should/could go too. I've not seen them either, hope they're decent for you. Don't think they've played Scotland, they're not exactly prolific tourers anyway..

I am. Got tickets as soon as Bolt Thrower were announced, not seen them since about '91.

Bands for me will probably be:
Amputated
Orange Goblin
Wodensthrone
Revokation
Anaal Nathrakh
Cannibal Corpse
Bolt Thrower.

Look out for a patched waistcoat with the spine of a motorcycle back protector fixed to it and a Nuclear Assault "Mutants for Nukes" t-shirt

I can't get Crabulon out of my head!

All of which raises the important question - who would win in a fight between Crabulon vs Robototron? We need to know!

Still amuses me to see all the angry YouTube comments about Evil Scarecrow not taking metal seriously, as though all that's allowed in metal is relentless blastbeats, ultra-technical riffs and an angry bald man growling and gurning over the top of it all.

Crabulon is infectious smile As is 'Rise'

My money would be on Crabulon as she is more ruthless wink and all you'd need to do to distract Robototron is threaten Slagbot.

They really are one of those bands that you either 'get' or not. I was hooked the first time I saw them, their level of humour is just right for me. The new album has proved that they can actually write decent, technical music as well as just silly anthems.

The metal community, whilst great at times, really does have its head up its arse over stupid stuff. As with the youtube comments, I'm as amused and bewildered by the hate posts at every Bloodstock announcement (Rob Zombie is the Sunday headliner next year!). If you don't like the bands, then don't go or go check out a different stage. Even more ironic for me now as I'm working as drum tech on the New Blood stage, so I'm actually hoping more more bands I don't like as I'll only get to see one band each day before 8:30pm (and Nuclear Assault already has one slot filled). This year was Flotsam & Jetsam, Evil Scarecrow and Obituary. Still, the quality of bands on the New Blood stage this year was phenominal and it was a pleasure to get to sit and watch so many great drummers.

I don't really want to discuss what is heavy metal and I am not sure what I've just heard in those two links but that is awful.
I'd look away now if I were you smile
