Downloading Slugdge now, will comment later. I am a big Bolt Thrower fan for their standout moments, personally the first half of '..For Victory' and the like, so optimistic about Slugdge.
Yes I have heard Illogicist a while back, I think they had a favourable review in Terrorizer for 'The Insight Eye' but they didn't do much for me, or atleast live up to expectation. They were probably described as sounding like Death mixed with Meshuggah or something.
Favourite new album of this week has been Witchmaster. Fairly generic Black Thrash but done how I like:
Witchmaster - Antichristus Ex Utero
This is the title track, not my favourite from the album but it'll do.
Listening to Skady now; fairly generic usually mid-paced BM but not picked anything wrong with it yet.

Playing Bloodstock next year along with Nuclear Assault, Overkill, Death DTA and Cannibal Corpse. Hoping to get some time out to catch up with Bobby Blitz.Bloodstock seem to like rebooking the same bands every 3-4 years. I'd be interested in Dark Angel and Nuclear Assault, but the only one I'd definitely like to see are Death DTA, and they're doing a small tour in March anyway.
Of course, if you're working there anyway it's not a bad weekend away!

Yeah, there is a bit of repetition (but not as bad as Sonisphere) but it's looking like a great line up this year.
I'm drum tech on the New Blood stage so it's going to be a bit of a bugger for me if a few more thrash bands get booked for the daytime as it'll be a hard choice to pick one. We can get away with picking one band per day to go see, so far Nuclear Assault is a must, hopefully Overkill too. Our stage runs from 10:30 to 20:00 with maximum 15 minute changeover between bands so it's quite gruelling but well worth it especially as this year I got to watch Obituary from backstage with the guys from Avatar.
Looking forward to Rob Zombie, that should be good.

So far I have to say I'm enjoying the new Bloodbath more than I expected. It's quite different with a distinctly more black metal feel.
Still dooming my face in. The new Yob album is amazing:

Seeing Nuclear Assault mentioned has got me digging their stuff out again - fantastic!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9tTMAaxrxo

Nuclear Assault (along with Dark Angel and Forbidden) were my "gateway" bands into the murkier waters beyond the Big Four. Still a great energy about them.

I loved Nuclear Assault and have seen them a few times. I wasn't that keen on the vocals they were pure thrash.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9tTMAaxrxo

The other two (DA & Forbidden) was a golden era of thrash.
Weirdly, I never got on with Death Angel. I think them and Coroner are the only two thrash bands I don't bother with (although Masked Jackal is a great song).
Trying to remember who I got onto after the big 4, possibly Overkill. I remember getting the Forbidden Evil demo off Chris Astley (before Xentrix got signed) as well as Lawnmower Deth's MLF EP, and it was immense. I think the first Forbidden & Vio-Lence releases were the most exciting to come out.
Another good gig next year is Thrashersaurus in Norwich. 2 days over May bank holiday with bands like Xentrix, Reign OF Fury, Psykosis, Incinery, Eradikator, Desolator and more to be announced.

Some nice random finds on Bandcamp this evening :-
bd Sapling
Mare Cognitum
Mare Cognitum is probably going to need a bit more time to explore, but liking it thus far. Definitely going to be one that needs more than casual listens I think.

Listened to Slugdge last night, the Gastronomicon album. Not quite what I expected from your description but decent and will listen again. The clean vocals caught me out initially.

I like both of these too although not heard everything yet, got the second Mare Cognitum album on CD from 'him' a while back, a nice (homemade I assume) package overall for about £7-8 including shipping. bd Sapling

Get what you mean about Slugdge. There's a lot of styles all crammed into one CD, so it's hard to explain properly beyond the "bits" that remind me of other stuff. Still hugely impressed by it mind you.Need to properly sit down with Mare Cognitum. Bits of it feel like Portal or Vassafor, but then you have the atmospheric parts sweep in. Interesting listen, but is going to need a bit more concentration methinks. As with Slugdge, I just love the fact this stuff is up online to find and explore.
Last night's listening was Dopethrone's "Dark Foil". Up there with Bongripper in terms of having an awful name, but enjoy the music. Nothing groundbreaking, but nice tone and heft to it.
This guy popped up on Sickdrummers youtube:

Used to play for Rings of Saturn (not like) now plays for Black Crown Initiate who I think I could get into. Utterly gash band name aside. Dude can play!

Been trawling the I, Voidhanger Bandcamp page, having been hugely impressed with the Mare Cognitum release.

Rather like that. Has something of an Italian/Greek Old school Black Metal vibe, with hints of NWOBHM and proto-thrash/speed here and there.
