Been on the Black Metal of late. Neither of these are trying to reinvent the genre, but that's sometimes as enjoyable as hearing something new and interesting.

Well we've still got a similar taste, been a fan of all of these for a couple of years or so. The Domains one is the surprise as for me to like a new release in DM regardless of style is quite rare, but I did/do.Arvas

Heard lots of good stuff so far this year but the release and/or song that has stuck with me most is this from Fluisteraars. It's not an amazing song, but every riff, drum pattern and whatnot I really like. There's a few obvious comparisons; initially Burzum perhaps but there's definitely a Ukranian scene element there, and/or Primordial if you look at it that way; plus others. This is the complete album (3 tracks) but it's the opener I'm focusing on:
Fluisteraars - Dromers
The last thing I bought was the new Au-Dessus EP, you might like this too. It's listed as 'post-BM', it's got that atmospheric Sludgy sound like a lot of stuff going about. Another one that's not amazing, but it was cheap so thought I'd get it. The opening of this is actually a lot like the 'Southern' Black Metal of some Glorior Belli:
Au-Dessus - V
Another one that's sort of new to me is Dwell. I was first hooked by the Inquisition-esque guitar tone but it's actually more Death/Doom orientated. I heard this track about a year or so ago but since then they've re-released the demo plus some other tracks on CD from HHR, so easier to get hold of etc.
Dwell - Plunging into Ash Tombs
I'm similarly out of the death metal loop these days, but really enjoyed Domains. Has that nice chaotic edge to it, but at the same time never spirals out of control into Teitanblood sort of territory. Nothing wrong with that approach, but can be a challenge to enjoy.
Some more random BM finds :-
Thy Darkened Shade
Need to properly sit down with that, as it's 76 minutes and quite hard to simply dip in and out of.
This is on the same channel as the above, and is pretty damn impressive :-
The 135 - Lumen per Lumen
Occult atmosphere is rather undermined by the into making me want to shout "One vision!"
Finally, a weird DM Bjork cover!
Khonsu - Army of Me

Change of pace after all that Black Metal...
Slomatics - And Yet it Moves
Loving that.

Was anyone else at the "End of Career" show at the Marquee all those years ago? Happy days. Will be interesting to see how things go, but the reaction online seems to be pretty much universally positive. Bonkers to think a band that only existed for four or so years can have so much fan goodwill two decades later, but shows how fond people were of them. Will definitely be trying to see them when they play live H also does a podcast which is worth a listen, some great interviews on there.

Listening to Sulphur Aeon at the moment. Their 'new' album has been getting a fair bit of exposure, partly because of the awesome artwork:
It is however quite a decent listen, not a million miles from Morbid Angel and Behemoth's output since the late 90s, but done right I can like that style.

More Slugdge-y goodness.

Love the lyrics as well.
Also, Metal Hammer is streaming a track from the upcoming Witchsorrow. Reminds me quite a bit of Cathedral with perhaps a slightly blacker tinge? Good stuff.

Really? Sweet. I saw them at Donington '06. Thinking of going to see them in Bristol later in the year too.And I managed to get one of the limited reissues of The Trees Are Dead And Dried Out Wait For Something Wild, on vinyl
Trees are Dead has some of my favourite musical moments in it.
I recently bought tickets to Hevy fest. I haven't really followed anything vaguely heavy for a long time. Whilst I don't count most of the line up as properly heavy there are some cool bands out and about. I bought the Monuments - The Amanuensis album after checking them out on YouTube. I like that band.

Liking that. Great video(s). Nice drumming too.Flitting around last night trying to find something to fit my musical mood. Too impatient for doom, not in the mood for Black Metal and just getting angry at weird proggy stuff. Solution? Roll out the Orange Goblin
