Digging that! To me sounds very Jester's Race album by Inflames but with much heavier drums.
Cheers man! I'll not tell the guitarist you compared it to In Flames! Drum tracking to be done in September once I've moved house. We're still looking for a vocalist but we'll punt out an instrumental EP if necessary.Z06George said:
Haha understandable! Yeah it took my prog metal band about a year to find a vocalist, it's a proper ball ache.
We've had one guy try out but he wash pish. Bassist knows a guy who said he might be interested in trying out but it's like herding cats.ETA - Another (slightly rougher) tune up now.

I always liked this tune of theirs, from an older album. Opens with a great Morbid Angel-esque riff, has some of those fast, jagged riffs that Nile favour and a brilliant chorus which is very much Psycroptic's own. I've never been massively impressed by their vocalist, but as a guitarist I don't really listen to tech death for the vocalists. There's not Trever Strnad in this genre.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhBuCy1PAGk
I also really like the production on this, it's a bit old skool with a bit more space in the mix, rather than having everything stacked on top of each other and making it sound super thick, as is the modern trend.

The vocals on the pre-(ob)servant stuff are pretty terrible to my ear. I think he improves as time goes on. They're style has changed a fair bit too, a lot more groove/riffy stuff and a bit slower:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhBuCy1PAGk

The most recent stuff has an alomost NYC Hardcore sound to the vocals;

Personally I quite like it. I'm not as keen on the production of the older stuff but I like my metal to be nice and polished.
Either way, a great band that have somehow totally passed me by till recently.
I'm really looking forward to seeing Death 'DTA' at Bloodstock.
Been into Death since the early 90s but realistically was too young to see them live; been listening to Leprosy and Individual Thought Patterns the last week or so, amazing band.

Sure some will wonder how on earth anyone can listen to that, but I find that utterly glorious, even when it spins out of control. They're a band who always seem on the edge of imploding and it just adds so much energy to things for me.

That's my next hour sorted then. Saw them a few years ago supporting Cathedral. They blew everyone else off the stage.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkwASLMESuY

Derek Roddy gets his old band back together - old school thrash/death doesn't get made like this anymore -

On the topic of old school and drummers. Gene Hoglan played with Dark Angel and Death back to back at Bloodstock. Needless to say I wish I could do that, it was mighty impressive!

I was never that impressed with Roddy as he never looked to be having much fun, but on that track he's obviously having a ball.On the topic of old school and drummers. Talking of Hoglan, he's posted up a DTA drum cam which finally shows how good he really is - simply perfection., I've been a huge fan of his since Individual Thought Patterns -

Mixed bag of listening in recent weeks. Have suddenly started enjoying "Autotheism" by The Faceless, which surprised me, as not my usual cup of tea. Think getting into Gorod sort of helped. Normal service more or less resumed with new Witchsorrow and Acid Bath.
Witchsorrow - To the Gallows
Acid Bath - Coming Down from Outer Space
Witchsorrow track has a sort of "Cathedral doing Black Metal" feel to it at times. Most enjoyable.
Edited to do some tidying up

They also seem to have Spore Ensemble back up, which is just bonkers good. Worth investigating, if only for lyrical universe they're weaving.
Change of mood with Elder - describe themselves as heavy psych rock. Long songs, but never get dull and sound great.

Was at Reading Festival this weekend - there's still quite a bit of metal gets on stage there, they have a specific tent for it called "The Pit". Metallica were awesome headliners, but two bands I saw which I'll be following up on are 'And So I Watch You From Afar' and 'Baroness'.
The former was mostly instrumental, the latter more shouty. Both very enjoyable and I'll pick up some of their studio stuff shortly.
Anyone else on here attend?
