Had a hugely enjoyable time seeing Evil Scarecrow in MK on Friday night. Much robot dancing and crab scuttling was had. Was originally just meant to be their gig, but the venue got offered Kvelertak, so they ended up headlining with ES as support. Hadn't heard Kvelertak before, so stuck around for a bit. Hugely energetic "Black 'n Roll" sort of mix, but did rather all blur together, so was left a little underwhelmed after a while.
I quite like Kvelertak, at least their first album. I thought I'd mentioned them on this thread in the past, and I had - four years ago. Didn't realise this thread was that old!

You might enjoy this from back in the day hornet, I remember the first few tracks from the demo 'Optical Mass', I was only 9 when I was being played this by my brother! It was at least 20 years since I'd heard it until the other day:

https://darkblasphemiesrecords.bandcamp.com/album/...

A few new things I've been listening to; all Black Metal. The first and last link of these four having the most impact.

Turia - Dor

Megiddo - Spawn of Abel

Mora Prokaza - Satanic Hymn

Nocternity - Harps of the Ancient Temples

After seeing them live a few weeks ago and being slightly impressed, I thought I'd give Kampfar another go. They've been a bit hit and miss. The new album is actually quite good, if rather unoriginal.

Kampfar - Profan

A night of thrash at Leeds tonight. Slayer were tight and note perfect.... But not for me.

Norway's Kvelertak were a great find, but ANTHRAX stole the show. Great crowd, sold out. Thrash heaven!

Last time I saw Anthrax (2yrs ago) was when me and a mate went to see Motorhead. Anthrax were bloody brilliant! The energy they had was ridiculous and infectious biggrin

Kvelertak were pretty good and Anthrax were superb ,but I thought it was supposed to be the Spreading the Disease anniversary and they didn't do a single song off it. Slayer blew the roof of the place, it's the best I've seen them since the Reign in Pain tour in 1987

Agree totally ...I did the 'good dad' thing and popped the boys back to Portsmouth Sunday night and they clocked MSG & Priest in a less than full O2 on Monday. Schenker played an awesome retro set by all accounts, rather lost on 2 teens, but Priest impressed yet again. Doesn't Halford every age?!

I know Tesseract's new album has been mentioned before. I just can't get into it. I think it's the vocal style that kills it for me. Despite that however, I have become borderline obsessed with the first tune on the album, which is basically perfect.

I've given Opacities a number of spins now over the last few days. At the moment I genuinely think this might be one of the finest works of music in my collection at least. If they never do anything again this feels to me like the work by which they could be forever defined.

I was a bit disappointed at first that it's only 6 tracks long but, tbh, it hits everything so perfectly and completely in those 6 tracks that any additional ones might just have run the risk of being filler, diluting the experience.

Days are Dreamed is just the perfect ending. Very hard to pick a favourite off their tbh!

Hell & Accept in Kentish Town tonight. Really enjoyed Hell, kinda a 'darker' Darkness.....theatrical, but not too serious. Might buy some.

Accept are a big old favourite of mine. New Blind Rage album seriously worth checking out, though a few months old now. Epic live show, 2 hours with a good mix of old & new. The band seemed to really enjoy this single UK date.... An excellent evening!

Somehow missed this album. It's really excellent. Can't get on with their newest though.

It's a really enjoyable record, I was a little disappointed with their live set the other night though, the technical nature of their music really didn't come across very well in my view. The sound at the venue for the support acts (Destrage, who were awesome, and Hactivist) was great so I'm not really sure what happened.

Was that the Manchester gig?

They were in Academy 3 weren't they? Must admit when I saw they were in that place I was sort of glad I didn't go.

Me and a mate went to see CHevelle there last year. There was a great young band from the US supporting and who really got everyone in the mood. Chevelle were probably brilliant but the levels were totally dog turd. Couldn't make anything out - it was just a wall of noise.

So I reckon it's dump acoustics in Academy 3 that simply can't cope with bands turning it up a little.

Yes Academy 3, it was supposed to be 2 but for some reason it was up top - the usual issues with toilets out of order, flooded urinals flowing out onto the stairs, expensive beer and so so on. You could well be on to something with the sound, maybe their people expected more from the setup in 3 whereas the Destrage and Hacktivist sound guys were less demanding.

Bit crap if I am right though. That Chevelle gig was the first time they'd played over here in donkeys and there were limited shows. Same with SikTh. So it's a shame if it's spoiled by poor acoustics/venue.
