How did I miss these?!

As ever, beautiful output from Deftones. I don't understand how they keep it up, album after album.

Have to agree that, for me, they're the best band of the last 20 years. Only Tool could come close but their output isn't prolific enough - it's that, and their continued evolution with each album, which truly amazes me about Deftones.
everything gels......i was worried after chi cheng died that nobody could fill that void. i'd known sergio vega from his hardcore days and really loved his rickenbacker sound and playing on slip when he was in quicksand....but couldn't see how he'd work in deftones. how wrong i was!

carpenter is right up there with my favourite guitar players. i can't think of anyone else who generates that weight of sound. it's phenomenal. and he can write a 4 or 5 note riff ( like triangles of the new album) that absolutely blows you away.

astonishing outfit.

I saw Deftones at Download in 2006 but I only really knew Back to School. The last few years I've picked up a few of the albums and have been loving them all (so far I have Adrenaline, Around The Fur, White Pony, Deftones and Saturday Night Wrist). Can't wait to get another chance to see them at Download again. Oh and I prefer Pink Maggit now.

Get Diamond Eyes - it's incredible. They don't do any bad albums tbh, but their career is punctuated with stellar albums - my faves being Adrenaline, White Pony and Diamond Eyes.

See I saw them at Download in 2004 and I'd been a fan since Adrenaline but I thought they were pretty piss poor live which put me off them, I still enjoy their studio stuff but they just didn't seem to want to be there at Donnington and Chino especially just seemed bored. I have heard rumours that Steph Carpenter was less than happy with the material on the latest album and has hinted that he may not be in the band for much longer....

I'll keep my eye out for Diamond Eyes (oddly in this day and age I've only bought a Deftones CD if I've come across it in a shop).

I can't remember what they were like in 06 at all tbh... I was too excited to see Tool at that point... and Coheed and Cambria had been on just before... with Strapping Young Lad blowing me away too... good day!

I'm in the mood for some female fronted heaviness. Any suggestions?

Bands that come to mind:

Acid King
Made out of Babies

and that's about it!

Any mention of Arch Enemy or Lacuna Coil will be ignored.

I want to like this...but I'm finding it totally bland.

Currently working my way through a playlist of chick-metal!

Like.

I do genuinely wonder though, having read a few recent interviews with Moreno and Carpenter, just how much longer Carpenter will stick around.

It seems increasingly as though he feels his input is being marginalised by Moreno's intended direction for the band's sound. It also seems he's keen to go off and challenge himself in terms of his skills, having become friends with and an appreciator of, the likes of Animals as Leaders and Periphery. It would be a real shame if they parted ways though imo, as his sound is central to that of Detones. Without him it'll become Team Sleep/Crosses.
