Also releasing the same day (Friday) as Gore is "Statues" by Black Peaks - who count Deftones as one of their influences.

The full album is streaming here.
Trust me. Opens up with the now familiar Glass Built Castles and every song that follows is brilliant. I particularly love Say You Will, Hang Em High, Drones, White Eyes... the whole album is brilliant though.

Like.
I do genuinely wonder though, having read a few recent interviews with Moreno and Carpenter, just how much longer Carpenter will stick around.
It seems increasingly as though he feels his input is being marginalised by Moreno's intended direction for the band's sound. It also seems he's keen to go off and challenge himself in terms of his skills, having become friends with and an appreciator of, the likes of Animals as Leaders and Periphery. It would be a real shame if they parted ways though imo, as his sound is central to that of Detones. Without him it'll become Team Sleep/Crosses.
nail on the head mate...no carpenter ...no deftones...I do genuinely wonder though, having read a few recent interviews with Moreno and Carpenter, just how much longer Carpenter will stick around.

Some great Bandcamp discoveries made possible thanks to mutual Slugdge worhsip. Praise Mollusca. Tip of the hat to markmelara for having a most excellent collection that's going to keep me busy for weeks.

I'm in the mood for some female fronted heaviness. Any suggestions?
Bands that come to mind:
Acid King
Made out of Babies
and that's about it!
Any mention of Arch Enemy or Lacuna Coil will be ignored.
It's possible you aren't in the mood any more....but Cult of Luna & Julie Christmas from Made out of Babies have a new album together which came out today, I've listened to it a couple of times this morning and it's excellent.Bands that come to mind:

Also, Kylesa have moved more towards the female vocals on the last few albums and are better for it.

Listening to Poison Idea today. Great hardcore.
You gotta love a band who have a 35 stone guitarist called Pig Champion who's so fat he can't stand during performances.
Not been doing much performing (sat or otherwise) for a decade now, as he died in 2006 You gotta love a band who have a 35 stone guitarist called Pig Champion who's so fat he can't stand during performances.
But yes, fantastic band. Don't get on with a lot of hardcore, but PI always had that metal edge to them. Both "Feel the Darkness" and "Blank, Blackout, Vacant" were mainstays of my musical youth, and still get spun to this day. The bass solo in "Punnish Me" is a thing of wonder.
On a related note, what about Ratos de Porao? Similar sort of feel to PI.
I've had a bit more of a listen to Gore, and it's left me flat to be honest.
Just doesn't hook my in at all. There are a few moments in there, but on the whole I'm even wondering if I'll bother buying it. That would make it the 1st Deftones album I don't have.
To me it sounds like a band that feel they need to release another album going through the motions, and the obvious creative differences that have worked so well to good effect in the past have started to work against them. As though they've got used to the differences and what previously worked to create magic now just delivers a sense of boredom.
Ah well. Apparently Eros should be released next so at least there should be something good still yet to come from them

Listened to it twice through having got it today. I'm on board. Track 10 with jerry cantrell on it is amazing. I'm hearing little tickles of all sorts in there.
Listening on a proper set up rather than youtube makes a huge difference. 8 string guitars and 6 string basses just don't register on Samsungs!!

Yes, was aware that Tom Roberts had died. And Punish Me is indeed a wonderful song, as is 'Got to Get Away'. But yes, fantastic band. RdP are superb. I have their latest album and to say that it is 'frenetic' would be understated somewhat. Powerful stuff
If you like V fast punk, Zeke are superb, particularly their 1996 Flat Tracker album. Nothing clocks in at more than about 90 secs but the songs are adrenalin fuelled blasts of insane punk rock'roll. Tight as a gnats chaff, and the songs usually about drugs but often about cars, bikes and engines (God of GSXR, Holley 750, Hemicuda etc), so very PH...

I suspect Poison Idea are the reason I ventured from the (reasonably) safe waters of metal and into murkier grind and crust territory. Sounds daft, but liking them sort of gave me permission to like "not specifically metal" fare. Sounds daft, but hey, I was young and impressionable!Have just checked out Zeke. Ok, although not sure I could listen to a lot of it. Rather nicely, "Feel the Darkness" is in the recommendations.
Oh, and for fast and tight (missus...)...
