Thank you so much man, I really appreciate that. Sometimes I get so locked into my little world of music that I suddenly wonder "what if this is all actually rubbish?" so it's great to have some positive feedback.

I totally agree on the kick. I think the toms sound great but kick lacks punch. I think the cymbal sound could be a bit "cleaner" if you see what I mean. We're about another 3 mixes down the line now!
all good fella.....i remember back in '94 we had a track that had a breakdown in the middle with double bass drum( 2 pedals/1 beater was our set up)...any way we couldn't get it to sound hard AND clicky at the same time. in the end we pulled the mic out a further 8 inches and gaffer taped a 50p piece to the skin under the beater.very analogue...but it was the 90's!!!....it sounded fking ace!!

LIKE

Channeling a bit of FNM there to my ears smile

In the last 3-4 days I appear to, maybe, have clicked with Mastodon. Tried multiple times but never got it. But been listening to Once More Round the Sun and it's certainly growing on me.

Did you go straight to that album or did you go via the old stuff? I would strongly, strongly recommend that you start at Remission and Leviathan if you haven't already. :-)

Top work! Kick sounds great too. Sometimes the old school is the way to go.

I often wonder where I might have gone with it....With the ease of recording these days I would definitely have been a studio rat

I tried going forwards but to no avail. So now I'm trying to go backwards laugh

It's the vocals I think. I'm not that down with just screaming/grunting, so that's maybe why I've gelled more with this. It has a dirty stoner rock feel to it as well which is helping (been listening to a bit of Monster Magnet recently).

New one to me, but loving the vibe I'm getting from this. Tonne of old school crust, grind and hardcore atmosphere.

Fair enough. I'm the opposite. Their new stuff makes me cringe!

Having somehow found myself listening to Deeds of Flesh (deliberately!), needed to detoxify with something that wasn't just endless blasting, slams and songs about aliens..

The other one I've been enjoying was "Nonsense Premonition", but they're a Columbian tech death band, so doubt we'd even be in the same library on that, let alone the same page smile

I must admit I am getting into vaguely proggier waters of late, as long as there's still a degree of heft to it. Anciients are the main pleasure at the moment. Also been enjoying what I've heard of the new Gojira, and looking back at the early days of this very thread, who'd ever have imagined that?!
