Anyone recommend a decent site to keep up with the latest metal/punk reviews and releases?
While I am not a massive fan of either, Metal Observer and Metal Archives for reviews. No Punk though. Some people would suggest Pitchfork but its very hipstery. I like Cvlt Nation, but it is more of a blog and mainly covers Hardcore/Sludge/Black Metal.

I know that's a favourite, for some reason '...For Victory' has always been my pick of the albums.
World Eater was the first Bolt Throw song I heard, probably via the Grindcrusher sample, so guess it just stuck. Intro is just immense and still blows me away today. Kind of lost interest in them after a while, as they are somewhat stuck in a songwriting niche, but they're certainly hardy, have to give them that!

A little over a week before I see them supporting Meshuggah, I finally "get" Animals as Leaders. Pity one of their members has left, but I'm sure they'll find a replacement... right?

Arguable whether it's really the Misfits any more, but enjoying this anyway :-

glad to hear it!! i have been literally spellbound since i found these guys.i still have the first album on loop a couple of years later.the new album "weightless" is unfathomable.no matter how many times you listen to it you just can't have it all bed in at once.i don't think it matters who left to be honest.as long as irt isn't tosin abasi.he was and is animals as leaders.the other guys just filled out as a live band and then stayed.99% of the input is tosin alone

Saw em live, they are my ultimate live act, better than anything else for sheer power....their albums are incredible but utterly wasted on anything other than a great hifi

Got to agree, saw them on their last 2 tours. Very odd having the drummer at the front and the singer at the back. lol

That Breakdown of Sanity sounded quite promising until the vocals kicked in. Wasn't terrible though, and similar could be said for The Contortionist.

...Here's some more Black/Sludge. Just listened to this album, enjoyed it although the vocals do get a bit annoying. Some great riffs though:

Never really listened to Pig Destroyer before now, but this caught my attention. Got to be pretty brave to cover any Dark Angel, let alone this one Burning of Sodom

On a related note, there are a few live clips of said song floating about, but never seen This one before. Is it me, or does modern metal just lack that sort of ferociousness? Listened to that Contortionist stuff up thread and it's good, but just sounds contrived to me.

Yep it is pretty good, but still not a patch on Empires.

I've recently been turned onto Scar Symmetry - another scandinavian band along the lines of Mnemic - recommend them.

Don't know if they're heavy enough for you guys but I've been getting back into Helloween again after finding my brothers Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt.1 and 2. I'd forgot how good they are, any more of their fans on here?

Also just remembered I said I'd post up any more material from my band when it gets uploaded so here's a new track by us... http://soundcloud.com/endeavourmetal/betrayal-of-l... Comments welcome no matter how nice/abusive this is PH after all.

Right here we go, two instrumentals and some British beef.

Intervals - Bedroom band from Canada - using Axe-FxII and Superior Drummer 2.0 with great effect.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QKT7ppttag

The HAARP Machine - Bedroom band from the Herts/North London area, this 22 year old British Asian lad has a great technique.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYX7npixFqo

Finally, 'The Safety Fire', personally one of the most exciting new British bands for me - touring the US at the mo.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROR4KWUA9rg

By the way when i say 'bedroom band' I mean all recording etc carried out in someone's room probably with a Mac and an SM57.

Stupid name for a band, but loving the vibe this has going Belzebong. Very much like Bongzilla sans Muleboy's rasp.

Awful artwork aside, this is also rather decent Without God. Guitar tone reminds me of someone else, but I just can't place it and it's bugging the hell out of me. Old Grand Magus maybe?
