Indeed. Especially enjoy his "old vs new" riff comparisons. Also, as a non-musician, it's interesting to see some of the genre tropes exposed.

Old school death metal nastiness courtesy of Martin Shirenc's touring Pungent Stench circus.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ0Gg5CTDXQ

I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed Pungent Stench. Still sounding sick and twisted all these years later, and clearly having a blast. Nice little Repulsion homage at the start as well.

I miss this sort of vibe in extreme metal.

expensive times ahead until you get signed pal!!!...been there done that!!....we never quite managed to get signed whereas my mates band ( cecil) signed to parlophone for the princely sum of 100k. but that LOAN never stretches as far as you'd like and while i was gutted back in the 90's that we never got past the stage of the odd a&r guy turning up at our shows........ultimately i'm glad my career path went the way it did. it might not be as glam in a meat factory as playing at download but hey ho!!

i uploaded some of our stuff to youtube a few years ago. the sound quality isn't anywhere near as good as the actual recordings but you get the idea!!
the'99 tracks we did at LIPA for free!! as we were part of a lad's final project on his sound engineering degree...luckily for us he was into similar stuff to us. the earlier stuff we paid for ourselves.expensive!

Awesome man! Are you still writing stuff?

Nothing from EP is ready for public yet I'm afraid! This is one of the songs that'll be on it though:

still stubbornly plugging away writing stuff fellalaugh..17 years after my last show...i've got a mini Boss home studio thing which is pretty cool. and my most recent addition to my guitar collection is an ESP LTD 8 string which has helped my eternal quest for lower register without losing all the clarity....

most of what i do now is more finger picky acoustic stuff which occasionally throws up some interesting chord patterns that i then end up transposing into heavy riffs and the process of writing the heavy stuff kicks in again.....

it's like a disease this is !!!

that's some heavy stuff you've got going on there fella..i can't put my finger on who you remind me of but it sounds great. be interesting to hear it with the clarity of proper recording so i can hear the more intricate stuff better but on the whole top effort!!music

Thanks man! Glad to see you're still writing stuff. I don't really know who we sound like generally, but we take influence from Gojira, Meshuggah, Devin Townend and many more.

Played an interesting gig last night. Put on by Of Spire and Throne who were possibly the heaviest, most brutal band I have ever seen live. It was amazing. Strongly suggest you check out the album the below track is from if you like brutal, slow ass doom.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=se0XXuevrjs

We were in the middle, with the above on first. The headliner was Maud the Moth who's a Spanish sort of Regina Spektor type. A really weird mix and some very bemused people in the crowd.

  • ****WARNING NOT METAL******
Not my usual cup of tea but cool to be part of something a bit weird. This girl can really, really sing though.

Just got back from watching InMe... I only really knew the first album and a couple of singles from the second... so ~2003/2004... turns out they've been busy since then. Some absolutely stellar musicianship from them tonight. Really great guitar work and such a tight band. Some nicely heavy stuff in there too... worth giving them another shot if you haven't been following them!

They had Press to MECO in support who I love already. Also a new band called Orcas... they just released their first video yesterday... they were actually really good... if a little new to the whole live thing. They were much heavier live than their video suggests. Some strong potential I think... kinda like Black Peaks with keyboards and slightly less good vocals.

I can see it not being many people's cup of tea but it's piqued my interest so far.

Full video of Starlight now released, and it's got shades of Deftones about it to my ears:

Well we've got a maybe 70-80% mix of one song. Any advice? My thoughts are a touch less reverb on the vocals and maybe a bit more of the overheads on the kit.

Most enjoyable random Bandcamp find, primarily due to liking the look of the cover art.

Satyrasis - The Imp of the Perverse

Name your price on Bandcamp, plus offered for free on their website, including instrumental only, for those who might not get on with the vocals.

So a guy who I "met" on a guitar forum way back in 2004 I think.. has released a new album. I don't even know what to classify it as but it has plenty of technical guitar work and aggressive (screamed/growled) vocals with a smattering of haunting clean passages... it's his most polished output to date and I think it's worth a listen. Start with the song "Euphoria" for a taste of it, if you fancy a listen that is.

i've only got stty speakers on this computer mate, but fk me that sounds great...i like the vocal the way it is tbh.....

i think your drum sound is really cohesive as is, maybe a pinch more on the bass drum if anything. i always used to notice that our drum sound got a bit too "cymbally" if the overheads were too high in the mix...which you don't seem to be suffering from in that recording at the moment..top effort fella

I haven't checked back very far....but have any of you tried out Uneven Structure?

Incredibly catchy djent-ish/Sikth type French dudes. Try their album Februus.

Also, the Black Peaks album is decent.
Thanks for this! Have been really enjoying this. The EP is great:

Thank you so much man, I really appreciate that. Sometimes I get so locked into my little world of music that I suddenly wonder "what if this is all actually rubbish?" so it's great to have some positive feedback.

I totally agree on the kick. I think the toms sound great but kick lacks punch. I think the cymbal sound could be a bit "cleaner" if you see what I mean. We're about another 3 mixes down the line now!
