im on the hunt for some good hip hop at the mo, as my collection is very limited. a few songs i can think of off the top of my head that i like are:
Dre-still dre
dre and snoop-deep cover
Eminem - Guilty Conscience
biggie-sky is the limit
eminem-sing for the moment
jay z feat mop - you dont know
wu tang clang-gravel pit

i know its a wierd choice but i like hip hop/rap with good lyrics and a good, catchy beat. i have been researching some of the suggestions mentioned earlier and so far my next few albums i buy will be:
Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
nas-illmatic
(toying with Eminem - Infinite )
does anyone have any other suggestions? only listened to a few nas and wu tang clan songs but really liking both of them
youtubed abit of jedi mind tricks and on the fence with those
same with mobb deep but alot more my thing.

any other suggestions?
If you're liking Wu Tang, get GZA/Genius' Liquid Swords and Raekwon's Only built for cuban linx. Great albums.

Great to see some real heads here at PH; just a few more that I've not seen mentioned;

Aceyalone
All Natural (check out Capital D's solo releases too)
Blue Scholars
Channel Live
CunninLynguists
CYNE
InI
O.C.
Redman
Intelligent Hoodlum
J-Live
Scaramanga (Sir Menelik)
Organised Konfusion
Supastition

I've been listening to a lot of instrumental stuff in the last few years, some good jap artists popped up recently, Five Deez producer Fat Jon is also worth a mention.

edit: thought these might be worth adding

Big L - Ebonics
DMX - Slippin
Saigon - Favourite Things
Milano - Rep For The Slums
Teflon - FU Pay Me
Mic Geronimo - Survival
Mobb Deep - Shook Ones

Beanie Siegel - In The Air
Hell Rell - Show Off
Gangstarr - DWYCK

I saw him the other week in Edinburgh at The Liquid Rooms. It was quality. Public Enemy is still my favorite gig though.

That's come round quick. Did you go and was it any good?

I was pissed I missed the conference he did back in the late 90's somewhere in Hackney. My friend went and dubbed it on his dictaphone and it sounded awesome.

Is anyone going to see Royce da 5"9 and Premo in December at Fabric?

It was brilliant.
Supernatural was there too, and his freestyle destroyed everyone in the room.

I got owned by Supernatural once. He was doing his usual pull something out your pocket so he can freestyle about it bit and having seen him before I thought right ya fker I'll bring some random bits and bobs. My car stereo at the time had this pop out number display. The stereo would stay there and you'd press this release button and the numbers for the radio would pop out. It couldn't have been more than an inch each way with 1-6 on it. He knew what it was straight away.

Next time I know he's in concert I'm taking drill bits, cookie cutters, scart leads the lot. laugh

Uk wise jehst is awesome - holy water is great! Lewis Parker is good too...

As mentioned RA the RuggedMan and Big L are awesome too, surprisingly Outkasts early stuff is worth a listen...

Possible all time favourite thought is "East Flat Bush Project" with "Tried By 12" awesome!

Have you heard the Lewis Parker and John Robinson album? Top quality.

And EFBP - Tried by 12 is a tunnnnnnneeee. That beat gives me the shivers.

Hi guys

I'm pretty new here, but into hip-hop, RnB and the like

Newer stuff though, like Lil Wayne, TI, Drake etc.

Anyone else into the newer side of American/British Hip Hop?

Hi RS,

I am a little depending on the song to be honest. Lil Wayne has grown on me as a lyricist and proven that he isn't just a one trick pony. Out of the Young Money Camp I like Gudda Gudda. Drake not so much. very predictable lyrics disguised by nice beats.

Wish I had time to read this whole thread but here's just a list of my hiphop classics, sure most will have already been covered:

MF DOOM - Mm..Food, Operation: Doomsday, Mouse and the Mask, Madvilliany, Vaudeville Villain (All vital, if you like just beats without the rhymes check out the "Special Herbs" collections.)

Quasimoto - The Unseen

El-P - Fantastic Damage

J Dilla - Donuts

Gang Starr - Step in the Arena, Daily Operation

GZA - Liquid Swords/Legend of the Liquid Sword (Prefer Legend, think I'm in a minority with that one though)

KMD - Bl_ck B_st_rds

Raekwon - Only Built for Cuban Lynx

Cannibal Ox - The Cold Vein

Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst

Jehst - Falling Down

Skinnyman - Council Estate of Mind

Big L - The Big Picture

Ultramagnetic MCs - Critical Beatdown

Ok, I'll stop now, I could go on forever. I've tried to avoid some of the most obvious ones (Illmatic, 36 Chambers etc) but I guess most people will have heard most of the above anyway...

Also noticed there was some Talib Kweli love at the start of this thread and while Black Star was bloody marvellous I find his solo stuff beyond tedious, just seems real preachy and self aware, again I'm in a minority on that one I think.

ETA: Hiphop heads and music nerds, check this site out: http://www.whosampled.com/ wasted many a work hour on there.

Love 300 bar, listening to that made me go and find The games version of Red Bandana. He completely ether'd 50 cent on this track
