A classic Hip hop album for sure... as you know it raised the bar to previously unknown heights, musically and lyrically. Rakim pretty much invented complex rhymes, very few since have managed to live up to him.

eminem should be mentioned here more, however, as of late his lyrics have been a bit suspect........ "quit playin with the scissors and s t, and cut the crap" "this rap game's nipple is mine, for the milking" compared to his previous marshall mathers album material etc its kind of embarrasing. i wish to nominate method mans "tical 2000:judgement day" - great lyricist and album imo. lyricist wise-ludacris has had some gems on "word of mouf"

Have you heard Eminem's Infinite album? If you haven't and you're a fan of Eminem then you should have a listen. Some of the lyrics are genius. Easily his best album in my opinion, all the way back from '96 as well! 'Maxine' always makes me laugh, the crack fiend! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EUVaVuPWcgNot a fan of Westwood but this is worth a watch if you're an Eminem fan - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwyOfqbP8JU&fea... - the Christopher Reeves dig cracks me up!

some awesome stuff in here, not been on this tbread before.
amazed not to see Lost Boyz and the Legal Drug Money album mentioned, released in 1996 and to this day sounds up to date ....
I remember seeing PE at Brixton Academy in one of their first London Invasion dates in 1987, was immense, and LL Cool J was support, again another master lyricist early in his career, and again later.....
as 2Pac would say , Keep Yer Head Up .....

Public Enemy still tour and still release albums. I saw them in 2007 at The Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh with only about 500 people crammed into the place(best gig I have ever been to, amazing atmosphere) and I saw them last September in Glasgow at the ABC. Both gigs were amazing.
