Just to make a few DnB heads a bit jealous, Global Gathering at the weekend featured one of the most amazing DnB lineups Ive ever seen at a festival. Pendulum, Chase and Status, Sub Focus, and Nero all with full live sets. Brings a whole new dimension to the music, and so much better than DJ sets.

? Pendulum are DnB, some of the others more dubstep, but I would have thought that some on here might have been interested. If not then feel free to carry on as you were.

Pendulum don't produce DnB anymore, in my opinion. It's just sort of electronic rock music with a DnB-ish drum pattern. I don't see how they could be classed as 'amazing' either, this video sums up Pendulum's music perfectly.

Pure monotony. Just my opinion though, obviously.

I think Sub Focus has gone downhill from his slightly older music. I think he's gone down the same route as Pendulum, in that he's targeting the more (and I hate to use this word) mainstream audience.

Compare one of his slightly older tunes such as "Airplane" or like you mentioned "X-Ray", which are great, to one of his newer ones such as "Splash" or "Rock It". The latter two to me seem slightly rock influenced. Infact the first time I heard Splash, I thought it was Pendulum.

I'm not saying his music is bad yet, but I think he's heading that way. I suppose we'll have to wait until he releases something else to tell.

Saw both Pendulum and C&S out in Texas and loved them both - C&S live stole the show, but Pendulum weren't too shabby either - you can argue that they are "too mainstream" (and I hate that phrase as well) or that they are no longer DnB, but they can still put on a hell of a show that gets the crowd going - they still play a load of their older stuff like Tarantula and Hold Your Colour alongside the newer stuff (which is much better live than recorded)

They seem a popular group to hate, but a lot of the people criticizing them just come across as music snobs who say things like "I used to listen to them before they were cool" - not that I'm accusing anyone of that, but everyone knows "that guy" who this could apply to:

My dislike for Pendulum isn't just me being a music snob, or because "they became cool". It's just how much their music has changed. For example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF1rD0uB3S4 - Old tune, which is brilliant

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBJjREXXSyA - New tune, which is awful

I tend to agree that they have drifted from what they started as, and their newest (I think) album isn't great (especially that screamo nonsense you posted wink) but still think that live they are fantastic and would still class them as DnB - recorded, looking at their newest stuff I don't know what I would class them as.

This. All over.

EggChaser;
Yes, their earlier stuff is maybe better, but who cares? The show is a mix of old and new music, along with the classics people want to hear. Also, the experience of seeing DnB performed live is a rare thing - most of the time its either through the radio, or a DJ set. Recorded and live are two totally different ways of consuming the music. I didnt say they were the best DnB band ever, but they are most certainly one of the best at putting on a captivating live show. The energy they put into the set cannot be described through a recording made in a studio, just as the atmosphere of 30,000 fans singing and dancing along cant be described through a record. SubFocus was awesome as well.

Out of interest have you seen either live?

I haven't seen them live, so I can't comment on that part. As for their music, though, I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree. smile

Well bumped. Agree about Bukem, especially 'Horizons', which is easily my favourite track from him. That S.P.Y. track is great, too.

I'm really enjoying the chilled stuff lately:

PennyGiles - Fallen Sunshine
Technicolour - Saviour
Duo Infernale - Feeling Blue
Submatic & Dan_e - Lost In Time

Right... I don't normally venture in here but I'm having a nostalgia session and was about to start a DnB thread and spotted this!

I can't post links from my phone right now which is irritating but will add some shortly.

I'd invite you to listen to some old mates of mine:

EBK from Renagade Hardware etc... YouTube for 'clouds' and 'mud'... Many more but these 2 I see as DnB genius!!

Dead Silence syndicate - www.deadsilence.co.uk mainly create live DnB, absolutely individual and cutting edge. Unrecognised talent of the highest order IMO.

For those into MCing, Lowqui... Che is a friend of a friend who is a lovely guy and tours with Goldie etc. Top man and rolls the lyrics like a don.

Links to follow Inc soundcloud when I'm on the laptop.

Opinions both positive and negative not only welcome but appreciated too!
