Not bad, but I prefer the original:

Although her torturously slow vibrato does come across more as a wobble than true vibrato.

Absolutely superb, a favourite of mine.

Another one - the amazing and tragic Sandy Denny, Who Knows Where The Time Goes? She wrote this as a teenager.

I clicked on page 1 of this 'ere thread earlier, and can't believe it's now 13 years old yikes

There's some great stuff early on in it, with tunes that have stayed with me over the years ("Hayling" by FC Kahuna - thanks to this thread - has been a favourite ever since). Anyway.

Lamb was posted early on with "Gorecki", but here's another Lamb tune I love - slightly re-worked by Messrs. K & D:-

Beautiful

Just beautiful

I always thought Julie-Ann Regan's rendition was the high bar for that tune; but my word that's wonderful

You Me At Six are a bit of a love/hate band for me, but when they do something good…it’s really good.

‘Take on the World’

Apparently Brandon Flowers wrote this about his wife’s PTSD - beautifully performed and thoughtful lyrics.

‘Blowback’

Apologies if either are a repost!

Clicking back through I see there was a Spotify playlist made, I never knew about it so I assume there are others who also don't know about it:

Hi All,

So i've been going through the thread steadily adding the songs to a spotify playlist.

I haven't added absolutely everything to be honest- some of the posts, whilst amazing songs, didn't quite fit with "Hauntingly Beautiful".

The playlist is here if you want to follow it:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6lew7luO41naFTWr...

The list is also collaborative if anyone wants to add to it!

There are some truly fabulous and beautiful tracks on there- beautiful to listen to while working AND in their own right. A testament to the musical taste on this rather excellent PH thread.

Enjoy biggrin
Can't remember if I posted this or not, it's not on the playlist so either I didn't post it or no-one else thinks it's worth adding hehe

Perhaps a recency bias, but tricky to beat About you by the 1975.

It’s a good song, but surely too busy to be hauntingly beautiful.

I think that something simple is required. How about this?

I do love that track and seeing that video is very home-evocative.

Got the signed vinyl from her with a pretty cool car on the cover too:

Looks like it’s been raised recently and previously. But for me it’s Lamb, Gorecki. Last thing I listened to before my heart operation. Which I was scared sh!tales about. But I’m still here!

Brilliant although perhaps down to me not getting the "hauntingly" bit right biggrin . "About you" is definitely haunting me through its sheer beauty but probably also though the memories it conveys...

Could I perhaps nominate this Great root-fifth power chords balanced with superb haunting harmonies. Love it.

Better than the Carole King original or the Everly Bros cover, (IMO) but never played on any UK radio station that I have heard.

A truly lovely Irish folk song. Very haunting (literally!) and with Sinead O’Connors vocals it’s one of the few songs I’ve ever heard that makes the hairs on my arms stand up on end.
