"As the Footsteps Die Forever" by Streetlight Manifesto/Catch 22. Criminally ignored by 99% of music fans but loved and adored by the chosen few. Their final UK tour is in May....

"Older Brother" a song about the death (suicide?) of a friend.

Doesn't sound 'down' and gloomy but the lyrics tell the story and of the loss.

I've posted the Cocteau Twins version of this before, but here's the original "Strength of Strings" by Gene Clark:

Just discovered this evening, an album called The Wind Collector by Gigi Masin and Alessandro Monti.

Some beautiful chilled-out ambient sounds. Only had a limited vinyl release in 1991, and never made it to CD. But some kind soul has uploaded most of it to YouTube:

Thank you for posting this- not sure if it fits the thread properly, but for the memories it bought back, of things I hadn't thought of fir years I had tears streaming down my face and a big smile.

Beer helped too of course
Excellent! That's when this kind of thread delivers!

Also love the song by the same singer, Kirsty Hawkshaw, it's a Fine Day. The original 1992 version is best IMO:

That is lovely. I've got this on the This Mortal Coil album, Filigree & Shadow album. Beautiful song, as is The Jeweller on the same album, also sung by Dominic Appleton.

For me it's this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiogKFpXeQY.
It may be a combination of my state of mind and lack of sleep, but this is the only performance that has made me cry full on. Beautiful performance by a superb singer.

You're quite right, it was This Mortal Coil not the Cocteau Twins. The This Mortal Coil albums are obscure classics as far as I'm concerned; more of a mini-show than a collection of singles - brilliant stuff.

I've got three

It'll End In Tears

Filigree & Shadow

Blood

All stunning. All indicative of a golden era for 4AD which included The Pixies.
