What to you is the saddest song you have heard?

I nominate - Luther Vandross; Dance with my Father.

Maybe not the saddest I've ever heard but tugs at the old heart if you have ever lost a parent cry

Not necessarily sad, but definitely melancolic; anything by Anthony and the Johnsons.

Changes by Black Sabbath - the original, not the stupid Ozzy / Kelly rubbish

Just sad to like it.

No offence meant.

Not a song, I realise, and perhaps slightly clichéd, but Barber's "Adagio for Strings" gets me every time.

After 9/11, the BBC proms changed the "Last Night" programme, and Adagio for Strings was on of the pieces played. The conductor was an American guy, Leonard Slatkin. If you want to see barely restrained emotion, have a look at his face at the end of the piece, from about 9'45" in the YouTube clip.

Listen to Lisa Gerard, especially "Sacrifice".
My kids call her the "whale woman" but I love a miserable song.

Neil Young, Old Man.
I think that's the title of the song anyway. Its such a good song but it makes me sad frown

I suppose "sad" can, in some cases, mean "nauseating whiny drivel"?

Agreed.

I seem to have some sort of bizarre masochistic obsession with listening to songs that make me feel sad!
