Second page and no mention of Ebony Eyes by the Everly Brothers, perhaps it's my age.

The Last Post.

Looking round the local war Memorial seeing less of the older generation each year, and tragically, many more younger ones come home maimed to take their place. Guaranteed to put dust in my eyes.

This Mortal Coil - Song to the Siren

The next one was played at the funeral of a friend and is guaranteed to make me tear up:
Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms

In the living years.

Mike and the Mechanics?
I heard the reason he wrote it. quite moving.
yes

Honourable mentions for Sanvean by Lisa Gerrard, Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits, the Band of Brothers Requiem by Mike Kamen and Hurt covered by Johnny Cash.

On a more personal note, I was left standing in a hospital room when my heavily pregnant wife was rushed to theatre when my unborn sons heart stopped beating and "Heaven must be missing an angel" came on the radio.

I may have hurled the fking thing against the wall in a burst of emotional rage and had to buy a new one a few days later.

I was bawling everytime that John Lewis Christmas advert was on!

I can't listen to Sia - Breathe Me without crying, same for Barry Manilow - Can't Smile Without You (was played at a friend's funeral), and the theme from The Littlest Hobo - Terry Bush - Maybe Tomorrow, stupid dog.

Oh, and there's always this one, especially when you know the story behind it - the true story of when he took his girlfriend to have an abortion:

This. My wife has lost both parents, if this comes on tv or the radio I have to make a dive to change the channel/station before the waterworks start.

Flying Pickets - Only You and Art Garfunkel - Bright Eyes are 2 others that seem to have the same effect.

An obvious one is "My Immortal" by Evanescence.

"Wires" - "Athlete" is especially moving when you realise it is about the premature birth of the lead singer's daughter.

Perhaps not a sad song, but for me it's pink Floyds wish you were here, it was played at the funeral of a very great lady I was with at the time- hoping not to get ridiculed but she was hit by a cab whilst in America.
Yes, I do realise how that sounds.

For similar reasons, the fields of athenry, and for even stranger reasons- you've got a friend in me from toy story.

Piss taking may now commence

+1 For the same very sad reason, to the point where i actually can't listen to it anymore.

My other one is a bit of Avril L... Ghey, i know, but sticks a lump in my throat as is a very poignant tune between me and the missus
