I went to see them at Wembley as well. Only a casual fan I spose.

Before a few weeks ago I only knew three songs. I did some heavy listening before I went though.

Overall I would give the show a 7/10 - good but not in the top tier - I think the main thing it lacked was that little bit of extra magic - its quite hard to define and explain what that is.

Would I see them again?

Probably - if they were playing locally and not too expensive.

Another thread resurrection alert....shout

Off to see them tonight at the Bath Forum in, er, Bath. It's the 20th anniversary tour of the album "This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours", a shortish tour of thirteen dates this month. It'll be the 5th time I've seen them, going way back to when they were a four piece in 1993.

Looking at the set lists published already, they're not just playing songs from that album but most of the others too. Can't wait, although these days, I'm more of a fan of The Killers.

They were fantastic, PT. I'm a bit meh about the support (Gwenno Saunders) but the boys more than made up for it.

The gig is definitely in two halves and they played a couple of left field songs. Won't spoil your fun by going further but they were superb last night.

I was at the forum last night, they really know how to bang one out.

Gwenno (the support).....a Welsh woman, who claims her first language is Cornish, singing a song in Cornish about Cheese & another in Welsh about Cardiff city planning.....

Cheers, I've seen Gwenno at a coupe of festivals and been sufficiently underwhelmed, liking her seems to carry maximum 6 Music hipster points but I just don't get it. Will stick in the pub until stage time to minimise time spent queueing for the SBE bar.

Anyone listening to the new album out today then? scratchchin

Signed album not arrived via Mr Postie just yet so I'm having to listen via YouTube this morning to "The Ultra Vivid Lament" via that method. Obviously the two singles "Orwellian" and "The Secrets She Had Missed" stand out but there are several other absolute crackers on there, none moreso than "Afterending" which is rocketed into my Top Ten Manics songs, what a beautiful song.

Have 300 miles of driving ahead of me on Sunday so hoping postie gets here by then. angel

I've given it a couple of listens and find it quite dull - certainly compared to James Dean Bradfield's cracking solo album last year.

"If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next" is, I think, one of the greatest songs of all time.
There's a Black Dog on my shoulder again.

I've never seen them live, but that song sends shivers down my spine.

They just got the 30 ranked songs treatment from The Guardian, I can't say I agreed with Faster at No 1, but each to their own.

Oh, and the latest album is not sticking with me at all, but it might be a grower

I would only have about half of those in my top 30 but good to read someone else's point of view. I really like the Manics in acoustic mode so would have:
Donkeys (Acoustic)
Sullen Welsh heart
1985
Too cold here

Loads more as well... Great band

Bit of an odd one for me. I dislike the production of almost all their studio albums to the extent that I don't listen to any of it more than once. Even when I like the music. Great live band though.

The one exception being the Holy Bible. I must've listened to that from start to finish a thousand times. I'm not even sure it's been engineered that differently to the others; perhaps the music is just good enough to overcome it. The US mix is a real eye opener... fascinating to hear how subtle differences in production can totally change the feel of a song.

P.s "yes" is easily their best song. smile

I think the production on “Postcards” and “Rewind the film” is brilliant, nothing consistent between them, different producer and locations but I just think they are really well crafted albums, helped not least by some great songs.

FWIW “Autumn Song” is my favourite followed closely by “Sleepflower”
