The story behind the picture is worse than the picture!
It was late in the day and we'd had a few when in the distance I saw Di Resta moving towards a fire exit and a blacked out people carrier pushing a pushchair with his girlfriend or friend.
I thought perfect there's a nice picture. By the time I'd got to him he was already gone but then I saw the 'jaw' approach. I then went into an almost mental state of Partridge-esque "Dave" "Dave" "Dave" "DAVE!!!!!". He then turned for the photo whilst my caggy handed mate struggled with his iPhone. Shocking effort made worse by somebody walking past and dropping their guts at the moment of picture being taken.
Coulthard must have been impressed.

I went with a long shopping list at the show for a project and satisfied that list, Brian James also made my day with news pertinent to those of us trying to sort trailers out in France, so overall on the 'doing deals' front it was adequate.
However overall I thought it was by far the worst show I had been too for a number of years. So did everyone I went with.
The Senna tribute I'd have liked to see but didn't have time to queue for, never bothered by live action arena but overall the show felt small, felt under populated, light weight and we were very dissapointed. If we'd all paid 34 quid each plus the parking it would have been very annoying, 17 quid each after the 2 for 1 deal was OK for what we got, but any more and I'd have been asking real quesitons over value for money.
The Classic show in November is a lot lot better and that's where we'll go in future, we needed to do some shopping and that was successful in the main, but the rest wasn't good, at all.

The live action arena stuff was awful. Really, really bad. The bit where they put the bloke in the back of the car with the two grid girls, seriously, an hour of my life I want back.
The show was fairly small, disappointing and not too much of interest, though it wasn't such a bad day out. Came in by train from Brum which worked well.
Whole day was made worth it by meeting a childhood hero, Richard Noble, who was a complete gent

The worst bit of the whole show was the racing 4 charity auction on the F1 stage in Saturday.
Was tedious with no atmosphere. As to why they didn't use the massive monitor above the stage to show what they were auctioning I'll never know.
And as for the racing overalls they auctioned......

Thanks to everyone who came along to see us and our cars on the TVR Car Club stand. Thanks also to the guys at Haymarket and PH for the invite.
I can't really comment on the rest of the show as we were busy most of the time talking to the visitors. Most people I talked to seemed to having a good time to me (and I talked to a lot of people over the four days!).

Most of the cars from Senna's career are on display just 30 minutes away from the NEC at Donington, along with a much more authentic range of F1 cars than you get at Autosport.
To: Kevin Wheatcroft: Start a Motorsport Business Show in the empty hall of the Donington Collection, with a tuning car public show in your Exhibition Centre. Get manufacturers to offer test drives around the circuit from the exhibition hall, like Goodwood Moving Motor Show.
It's interesting to read the comments of people who 'just go to look at the cars' who thought the show was really bad.
Most of the exhibitors I spoke to, ourselves included, felt it was extremely successful with a lot of business, and relationship building, happening.
Admittedly the show couldn't take place without something for non-trade people to look at so maybe the balance is a bit wrong at the moment.

The show won't be to everyone's tastes, and yes there will be some disapointment from time to time but on the whole we have received very positive comments. As you say exhibitors have had a great time, done some amazing business and on the whole are very happy.
I've been to three or four in previous years. Last years was a bit of a disappointment, and I was intending to go this year to see if it had improved. Until I saw the ticket price.....
I simply could not afford to risk the fuel costs plus over £60 admission for my petrolhead son and I to attend on the possibility of it being good - seems like it was a good call.
However, on reflection and in defence of the organisers, it must be an immense task to put on a show like this AND to appeal to both the fans and the industry. I guess that's where the PC Show and PH tie-in is supposed to work.
One of the let-downs for me in previous years was when I sussed that there were some huge sub-woofers in the Live Arena, pumping out low bass to make the cars sound more 'thunderous'. The problem was that they pumped out the same monotone regardless of what car was circulating. This was fine (but pointless) when the funny car did a burnout (and frightened some specators - LOL), but it was ridiculous when some of the other stuff was going round.

This puzzles me as well. The biggest collection of f1 cars in the world and they hardly ever go on track! Why? Logistically it must be difficult to get the cars to good wood/ nec, but they sit in humidity controlled readiness literally 100 yards from a racetrack! Why not have a show every year and put some on track? Including the really tasty stuff. If sennas cars were wheeled out can you imagine the crowds?
