Just don't forget your £10 parking fee. I gave up long ago attending NEC events as I always seem to leave disappointed especially if you've got a couple of hour drive on top of that.
+1, waste of time and money. Despite promises, it doesn't improve.keo said:
Thinking about going to this. The vast majority of opinions are negative though.
If you've not been, and can take a car full to offset parking robbery, or find a cunning alternative, it's worth a go. I wouldn't get an upgraded ticket, but it's a personal decision. The issue is the whole shebang is identical year on year, or close enough to make no difference, the interviews make it to youtube anyway, and the staged parts are scripted by chimps, with all the subtlety of a sledgehammer with regards advertising. Repeat visiting not advised, but the first time is generally fun, especially if you make the effort to talk to the people on the stands. I remember the first motorshow at the NEC, car park was an unfinished stretch of motorway (free!). Haymarket has a duty to the shareholders to show a profit; the difference is, wage packets in the real world have flatlined. It was at ASI that Paul told me Ted had sold PH, when was that.. it must have been 10 years ago.
Not for me this year - I hope that everyone who goes, enjoys it.

Haymarket bought PH late 2007, we launched it at the 2008 show. (I think). Not for me this year - I hope that everyone who goes, enjoys it.

Somebody said "There will be no show stopper." I know the Huracan, i8, 458, vuhl 05, 12c, 650s and so on, are not that special. But the Maserati 250F, Porsche 959, Ferrari F40, LaFerrari, Lancia Stratos and Jaguar XJR15. I think they are "show stoppers"
All of which I've seen at Goodwood and most I've seen at Goodwood for FREESpudLink said:
I've not been to the NEC for many years, however Ill be getting a free ticket to the show this year.
If I'm travelling from east of Brum, is New Street the best place to 'park and ride'? Is it much less hassle than parking in the NEC car park?
No it won't be. Parking will be £5 or $8 at the NEC but cost at least two or three times that parking in Brum. Then you ahve to get in and out of Brum, and if comeing from the east would have to drive past the NEC to get into Brum as well. Could park at Coventry and get train in?If I'm travelling from east of Brum, is New Street the best place to 'park and ride'? Is it much less hassle than parking in the NEC car park?
I'm not going this year, the ticket price has just got crazy, also know a fair few exhibitors that have said they're not bothering anymore as they've put the price of the stands up radically too.
But for those that are going, you'll find you can park at Birmingham international station for £5 if you arrive after 10am. It's then an easy inside walk to the NEC rather than having to queue in the rain for a bus.

That sounds like a plan. I was aiming to be there for 9am, but if that changes, then Birmingham International it is.But for those that are going, you'll find you can park at Birmingham international station for £5 if you arrive after 10am. MSA Licence holders get a £5.00 Discount.
Just tried to book tickets with that code but apparently it is no longer valid. I'm seriously thinking of going to London for the Classic car show instead, I can get a free ticket for that so it is very tempting but I did want to see some of the exhibitors at Autosport.
What I would really like to see is a reduced ticket price which does not include access to the live action arena, I really don't get any additional value from that element and if I do go to the show I almost certainly won't even bother going to watch. Please will the organisers take notice of this, I have put it down in my feedback every year I've been and there never seems to be any response on it. The people, cars and hall hire must be expensive so why bother with it unless there is overwhelming evidence to show it really does attract visitors who wouldn't go otherwise.
