IMHO, Radio Le Mans has got to be the best Motor Sports channels available and has made a huge contribution to fans enjoyment of the 24hr Race, I for one cannot wait to listen to 24hrs of John Hindaugh and Paul Truswell.

A little history for you, never realised before it was originally sponsored by Silk Cut Jaguar.

The commentary was broadcast on local ('special event') radio in 1986, in 1987 headed by a sportscar and radio enthusiast, Harry Turner, backed by Jim Tanner and Chris Crewe-Smith, founders of TTC radio. Backed by Silk Cut Jaguar the station quickly found favour with the tens of thousands of English-speaking fans at the race. The early years provided for only a very rudimentary service, no pit reports and a music loop played overnight.[1]

Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s the station evolved adding new features like the 'Mad' Friday Campsite Tour in 1989. This show, conceived and presented by a newcomer, John Hindhaugh, was to prove almost as popular as the race coverage, and propelled Hindhaugh, with his distinctive North-Eastern accent and irreverent attitude, to a similar status with the fans as the commentary team. Resident statistician Paul Truswell, famed for remaining standing at his microphone throughout the 24 hours (and more) has been ever-present on the Radio Le Mans commentary team since 1988.[2]

I thought Trussers was standing down from last year?

But yes, RLM are ace; John and Eve are outstanding people smile

And lets not forget the troubles they went through a few years ago that the team have come back stronger then ever from.

I often turn off TV commentary to listen to RLM over the web.

I can't begin to explain how excited I was when JH mentioned me during his commentary of the 6hrs race at Austin this year!

Hope we get the Jim Roller / Sam Collins combo commentating on the dusk into night slot this year, normally a highlight, but they weren't together last year

Could not agree more. You know how they say you will learn better at school when you have a good and interesting teacher?
Well thats me with endurance racing. I never used to be interested in endurance racing but the team at Radio Le Mans made it so easy to get into by sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm. So easy in fact that last year i paid a small fortune to travel to Le Mans all the way from Australia.

I enjoy listening to RLM at Le Mans, and the RSL Commentary teams at other major races, but as time has gone on I've found it harder to listen to the midweek show - mainly because of time - so thankfully there is the podcast.

Absolutely!

Brilliant team who make it easy to understand and have a great talent in sharing and conveying their enthusiasm for the event and sport in general.

Keep it up smile

Clearly I was referring to the racing year. As such the new Sports Car racing year has not begun, I can't be the only one who counts from the first endurance race each year, this weekend in Dubai, by the way, and also on Radio LM, and not some other arbitary date?

Ahem.

They had a 3 hour prototype race on this morning and there are 2 more tomorrow live in sound and vision on the website, was a nice surprise, (and felt a little bit odd! But in a good way!) , to watch racing on a Tuesday morning.

Have to agree with what has been said about RLM.

ETA Apparently the Dubai 24 hour race will be shown on Front Runner TV - channel numbers: Freeview 91, Freesat 250 and free to view on Sky 468.

Excellent news on this weekends race, not the full 24 hours but a lot better than things were looking when it failed to appear on the Motors TV schedule. Now all we need is someone to pick up full coverage of Daytona and Sebring.

For me the year begins on the happy date when the next Le Mans is nearer than the last one.

Love RLM, the year I couldn't make it I streamed the race on 2 screens in the house with the sound off and RLM giving the commentary.

The voices on the radio are a massive part of the Le Mans experience, it just wouldn't be the same without them.
