Have a look at either Insa Turbo Saharas or Dakars.
I have Insa Turbo Saharas, as does my bro in his SJ. Very much like those tyres.

I have the Saharas on my S3 Landy. Cheap as chips, excellent traction and slightly more gentle on the half shafts than the Dakars!

Spray all your shock bolts with "penetrating fluid" for a week before trying to fit your lift.

Spare wheel carrier: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/saris-graber-spare-tyre-ra...
There's no pics on there but heres mine in use: For the law geeks out there, yes it needs a light board as it stands in the picture! My old bike sat higher.

It bolts around the wheel and is supported by a strap at the top of the door. If i'm travelling a reasonable distance or carrying 2 bikes i run a ratchet strap through the roof bars to ease the load on the back door. Bike weight is important too, cheap heavy bikes will be noticable in terms of the steering. My bike doesn't sit that well on there due to its geometry and the wiiiiide bars knock on the back door all the time. My old bike sat on there fine once i'd adjusted the carrier position.

Have a look over on the BigJimny forum. Loads of knowledge over there and a decent supplier of parts.

Hi there have you still got the jimmy and if so would you sell it because I would love to have it as the colour is identical to the colour of my brothers original G4 Challenge discovery 2.

would you sell it if you've still got it as really interested in the vehicle.

Evening Folks,

I moved to Halkyn Mountain in N Wales 3 months ago. Although its 1000ft above sea level, we didn't really consider the possibility of getting snowed in at all. (Townies moving to the country eh??)

Anyway, after all the neighbours telling us of snow from November to March and experiencing fog in August, I decided a 4x4 would be in order. After much research (10 minutes on Autotrader) I am now the proud owner of a 2001 bright orange Jimny!

Everything is in good order (I'm not mechanically inept, just 4WD inept) and am good to go.

What have I bought and what can I do with it?
I know it has selectable 4WD with freewheeling front hubs. The hubs engage hydraulically I think. I know it has low ratio (like half the ratio of normal gears) but no idea how the box works.

Can any kind folks advise....

-tyres, it has Matador AT at the moment, I need snow grip.
-any nice places to play near me (Mold)
-any cheap upgrades to a sound car (92k miles though)
-common Jimny issues

Cheers, Stu

Great colour! I've had mine for 6 months now and done a few things on it now.

Their main weakness is rust on the boot floor, also the 'kingpin' bearings in the front hubs. A sign they are on their way out of steering wobble between 40-50mph.

Having owned a 1999 Jimny for a while and previously 7 Land Rover Series 3's (all with different tyres). I would recommend the first change being a set of All Terrain tyres. In the UK Yokohama do a great tyre called the Geolander 205 70 15 which is the Jimny standard size. A standard jimny can get most places. If your going bigger tyres then you will need a lift kit. The lift will not help the handling on normal roads.
A standard jimny is also very cheap to maintain. A standard shock is £17 as opposed to £50+ for a premium shock, a standard radiator cheap at £40. keeping a Jimny original will save you money.
