Here is a photo of my Range Rover that I got last October. I haven't had it off road yet other then the allocated parking by the house. Its on the neighbours drive as he is away!

Love blowing away corsa's etc with the 4.4l V8 Petrol.

Just washed with river water and autoglym! Its a natural spring fed stream!

Wouldn't mind being a quid behind you, that looks the business!

Looking good! thumbup

How many miles do you (plan to) cover a year? I bought my Discovery 2 TD5 in October; considered an FFRR but:

- Was scared of potential bork
- Doubly so with the TD6 (gearbox)
- The V8 would probably bankrupt me
- I couldn't find suitable off-road parts & accessories!

I wish you luck but hope you won't need it! Enjoy! biggrin

My 94 Disco 1 300 Tdi.

Had this less than a year, has 2" Terrafirma suspension, 3" body lift, Defender steering shaft, Terrafirma 2" arches, metal braided extended brake flexy's, wide angle props, cranked (Addrenalin 4x4) Radius arms, 16x10 Modulars with 285/75/16 Maxxis tyres.

Motor has an EGR bypass, an AllySport intercooler and tweeked pump, straight through de-cat exhaust, just done a service on it, new filters 10/40 Castrol Magnatec, previous owner had fitted new timing belt, drive belts, tensioners and idlers, still needs a rocker cover gasket, has a leak from the vacume pump and it's not starting too great on cold mornings so i think it needs glow plugs ? (my first Tdi), also wanting to get silicone Turbo hoses to replace the Britpart ones which blow up like a balloon, mileage is 144,000 odd.

As bought it was a decent spec, came with the snorkel, 2" lift, steering guard, had good Insa Dakar tyres on it (now sold), it's an ES so has leather, air bags, ABS, electric sunroofs, Air Con (which amazingly still blows stone cold), body and paint are nice, it has a few water leaks but all the carpets and soundproofing are gone so that doesn't matter too much.

It's had a ton of welding done of course, last owner did most of it, new boot floor, rear inner and outer arches, sills remade in 2" x 4" box section steel, i've welded up the N/S/F inner wing but have still to do the O/S/F.

It's a pampered show pony i'm afraid, taken it down a few rough farm tracks but that's about it, i'll maybe think about a pay and play in the summer but dont want to bash it about, going to be stripping all the suspension off in the summer to get it all powdercoated and painted.

I have decided my next car is to be a Land cruiser. Around the 1999-2001 vintage.

So, V8 petrol or diesel? Daily driver and occasional off road toy.

I'm not going to be doing any deep water stuff. So that's not a factor.

Any pros or cons to either version?

The V8 seems cheaper, and I don't do many miles.

What are they like for rust?

Just bought this today; nowhere near are hardcore off-road as most of the thread, but not many off-roaders will beat it in a straight line or in the twisties.

That's because its a land cruiser, you don't drive over snow the snow moves out of your way

Sadly no longer mine, but has its place as the most competent off road vehicle Ive ever owned.

My first go at a RTV trial, it got me into 4th place against some serious 4x4s with big spends behind them.
I paid £270 for it, and about £150 getting it how I wanted.

Well, I woke up this morning a sensible man.

Then I decided my Landcruiser ideas were unachievable, and bought a 1994 V8 Discovery, unseen from eBay for £500. Now on my drive, after breaking down once on the way home!

Pictures tomorrow.
